Student Life

at Rockhurst University

Welcome to Rockhurst!
We know what its like to be new and excited about your college experience. Everyone at Rockhurst is here to make
sure that you are successful in your academic pursuit and to support you all the way through to your graduation.
A large part of your educational experience will obviously occur in the classroom where youll spend approximately
15 hours each week. However, youll soon find that a big part of your experience will be the roughly 100 waking
hours each week you spend not in class. How you spend those 100 hours outside of class will largely determine how
successful and enjoyable your RU experience will be.

Research indicates that success in college is partially contingent upon a students co-curricular involvement.
Co-curricular involvement provides you with opportunities to apply classroom instruction, build peer networks,
develop leadership skills, establish connections to the campus and community, enhance ethical problem-solving and
decision-making abilities, promote self-awareness and learn about civic responsibility.

There are many choices and opportunities for each student to learn and grow as an individual and have fun at the
same time. All of us at RU recommend that you seek out opportunities to become involved on campus. Campus
jobs, peer education programs, research projects, involvement with intramurals or wellness classes, student
organization involvements and much more are ways our culture helps foster a successful student. Employers hire
students with good GPAs, but they also want people who know how to work with others, who can think critically
and demonstrate a record of involvement during college.

The RU experience is about student successacademic and personal. Go to class, study and get involved. These
three steps will guarantee your success at Rockhurst. Dont hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about
how to get involved at RU.

Good Luck!
