What I Want To Do

?4+1 years for the past 4 years in UTM Architectural School, there are many types
of buildings that I have explored, and design. From a small single building, to the multi-
storey high rise. I have been asking myself, what is the most suitable issues that I can
could satisfy myself, what is the design problem and complexity that I can conclude for my
5 years of studying architecture, here in UTM. After years of thinking and arguing with my
friends, none of the issue can satisfy me as a thesis to conclude my studies here. One day
I went to a beach, not far from where I stay in Terengganu, and I finally knew what I want
to do. It is nothing more that the environment that lies before my eyes.

Land + sea for the past 4 years, all of my design and building were all on the
ground, similar to normal conventional building. God created the earth with ¾ of it is
water/sea, and we can easily see lot of floating architecture. And there is also plenty of
architecture near the shore. But is there any architecture that connects these two types of
architecture? I did my research, and hardly found any. So I decided to dig deeper into it, a
design that will be based on issues related to both, land and sea. Who knows maybe I can
contribute something.

detail being in architecture is not only designing and art, but the knowledge of how the

building with work and perform in the real world is also important. It maybe the most
complex building that I have ever done for the past 4 years

responsibility life is not just about us, the humans. life is more than that. We are
certainly not alone on this globe. We live together with all other species, land and sea. But
a disturbing fact that I knew is that, ‘human population growth, and accelerating the rate of
extinction’. GOD send us as khalifah, to protect others, but statistically speaking, humans
did the other way round, and architecture plays a huge contributor to this.

• The decrease of biodiversity has been increasingly observed for
issues
ssues
the last 100 years. At this rate, estimated 30% of all natural
species will extinct by 2050
• New species originated 50% faster in coral reefs than any other
habitats.
• The main causes of unsustainable ecological practices are
habitat destruction, invasive species, pollution, human over
population, and overharvesting.
• Until 2010, scientist have successfully classified over 1.5 million
species, and it is estimated that up to 50 million more species
have not yet been found.
• Humans lives strongly depends on biodiversity
• The year 2010 has been declared as the International Year of
Biodiversity
• Land and marine biodiversity
scope of
• Technology of floating, shore, and underwater architecture

studies • Effects and contribution of humans to the biodiversity

• Reefs and origin of new species
• Any island that focus on tourism, diving, and sea-based activity

discussion our lives here on earth strongly depends on biodiversity, but as we

move forward into the future, as we become so called more civilized, the nature has to pay
the price of our action. We humans live on the land, very much depends on the rainforest
for turning carbon dioxide into clean air for us to leave. As rainforests is crucial to us, the
coral reefs are also as important to the marine life.

Ecosystems near the equator clearly have more species than do ecosystems nearer the
poles — but based on the fossil record, that observation appears to be old news: the tropics
have been a diversity hotspot for more than 250 million years. The question is, why? From
an evolutionary perspective, there are at least two possible explanations for this persistent
pattern: the tropics could be a cradle of diversity (where new species are born and nurtured)
or a museum of diversity (where old species are preserved despite having gone extinct in the
rest of the world)

As what the world currently knew, that coral reef is very important, as one of the most
diverse habitat. But recently, scientists discover that they also provide a pump of new
marine species.

“Our study shows that reefs are even more important than currently assumed. They are not
only ecologically important for the marine environment, but also in an evolutionary sense”

Dr Kiessling – blog.taragana.com

Every decision we take that affects biodiversity, also affects our lives and the lives of other
people. Biodiversity is crucial to human wellbeing, sustainable development and poverty
reduction. But people -particularly those in the developed world -have become so far
removed from nature that they have forgotten how much they ,and others, rely on it.

But what is this has anything to do with us? We are living far from the marine life. One of
the greatest discoveries that has ever made by the mankind is a major breakthrough in the
treatment of HIV infection. This is based on a chemical found in one of the marine life,
founded at a reef area. This indirectly highlights the value of coral reefs. As this
architecture is dedicated to the discovery of new species on marine life, especially around
the reef area, this will indirectly increases the quality of our lives.

We found that coral reefs are very active at generating biodiversity in the oceans, and that
they export biodiversity to other ecosystems. This was a surprise because many people had
assumed that reefs were ecological attracters – that species go there from other places.

Wolfgang Kiessling, Humboldt University of Berlin

We have more to learn about the world around us. As much as we consume from the
nature, as much as we harvest from them, we actually relies closely to them. As humans,
our species has the capabilities to protect, and to preserve the beauty of this world.

thesis panels below is the list of thesis panel that I would like to consider

I would like to go to a unit where I can challenge my thought

and ideas as far as possible. Reform and x-factor, both unit
can lead me to a way that might be a place of thoughts that I
2 x-factor
have never been there before. that is the fun of doing thesis.
