MATERIAL. Cotter pins shall be made from steel having the following chemical composition:

Analysis determinations shall be made in accordance with methods given in ASTM E 30.

(a) The minimum (basic) lengths tabulated are intended for use with standard clevises, without spacers.
All requirements, except PROTECTIVE TREATMENT below, are as specified in ANSI B18.8.1- 1972.
MATERIAL AND HEAT TREATMENT. Clevis pins shall normally be made from SAE 1010 -1020 or SAE 1211
steel, or equivalent, and shall be furnished soft or case hardened as specified by the CLARK part number. When
hardened pins are required, they shall have a case depth of 0.002 to 0.015 inch and shall be resistant to a #58 file
(per SAE J864-May 93). For identification purposes, hardened pins shall be marked with a capital "H" located in
the center of the top of the head.

MATERIAL. Unless otherwise specified, hydraulic pipe fittings shall be made from carbon steel. When carbon steel pipe
fittings are fabricated from multiple components they must be bonded together with materials having a melting
point of not less than 1900F and in a manner to assure the working pressures specified.
PROTECTIVE TREATMENT. Unless otherwise specified, hydraulic pipe fittings shall be furnished cadmium or zinc
plated to a thickness of 0.0002 inch minimum followed by a chromate treatment, or with a phosphate coating (oil
finished). These parts must meet the requirements of 32 hour salt spray test in accordance with ASTM B 117,
Method of Salt Spray (Fog) Testing.
WORKMANSHIP. Shall conform to the best commercial practice to produce high quality hydraulic pipe fittings. These
parts shall be free from all hanging burrs, loose scale, and slivers which might become dislodged in usage and all
other defects which might affect serviceability.
ASSEMBLY CONSIDERATIONS. Use of a compatible lubricant is desirable in assembling Dryseal pipe threads on
hydraulic pipe fittings to minimize galling.

All requirements are as specified in SAE Standard J512-Jun 94 except that of the options stated, the

MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURE. Shall be made of brass and, at manufacturers option and in
accordance with his process of manufacture, may be milled from the bar or forged. The bar or extruded
stock shall be SAE CA360 (half-hard), SAE CA345, or SAE CA350 material or the forgings shall be
SAE CA377 material.
PROTECTIVE TREATMENT. Unless otherwise specified, fittings shall be furnished plain (unplated).
When a protective treatment is required it shall be specified by adding the appropriated suffix letter,

NOTES: 1.All male threads shall be supplied with a slip-on protective covering to prevent damage to threads
and sealing surfaces. The protective covering fit shall be tight enough to prevent loss of covering
in normal handling yet be removable without excessive effort at time of assembly.
2.All sealing surfaces must be smooth except that annular tool marks up to 100 in maximum shall
be permissible. Any nicks and gouges across annular tool marks that may be detrimental to the
sealing action will not be acceptable.

(a) A slight rounding or lack of fill at hexagon corners shall be permissible provided minimum dimension is maintained
and nuts meet Wrenching Test performance requirements as specified in SAE Standard J512-Jun 94.
All requirements are as specified in SAE Standard J512 except that of the options stated, the following apply:
MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURE. Shall be made from steel and, at manufacturers option and in accordance
with their process of manufacture, may be milled from the bar or forged.
PROTECTIVE TREATMENT. These nuts shall be furnished cadmium or zinc plated to a thickness of 0.0002
inch minimum and, at manufacturers option, may be given a subsequent chromate treatment. These nuts must
meet the requirements of 32 hour salt spray test in accordance with ASTM B117-85, Method of Salt Spray (Fog)
Testing.
