Strategic Communications Plan

Purpose/Objective

The Salt Lake Community College School of Business is compiling a collection of

royalty free stock photos to use in the business department to help communicate business

concepts to their students. The objective of the Green Gang is to provide 100 royalty free stock

photos under the theme Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder. Because we each view beauty

differently we will be presenting photos under the themes; Travel, Sport, Food, Forms, and

Color.

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives for this project are Creative and Critical thinking and

Professionalism per the course syllabus. We will focus on expressing what beauty means to

each member of the Green Gang individually through pictures. We will use critical thinking

skills and compile pictures that will communicate our thoughts and ideas through a Weebly

website.

Our group will use professionalism in our communication throughout the project from

beginning to end. Our focus will be to work and communicate in an effective manner to

showcase five different views of beauty in our world. During this process, we wish to learn more

about each other and appreciate the individual contributions that will produce a stunning finished

project.

Messaging Goals

We would like to express what beauty means to each of us personally through

photographs. Our goal is, to not only inform others, but to inform them out of goodwill by

offering royalty free stock photos for use in the SLCC College School of Business. We would

also like to include each members message of beauty and why they chose each subject to

portray.
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN 4

Kyle - In my eyes sport bikes can be very beautiful. Whether solely for

transportation or for just showing off to your friends they can be very fun and

beautiful. I am amazed with the amount of craftsmanship and machinery that goes

into these machines. They can represent ingenuity, freedom, and a strong desire

to have fun.

Ryan - I chose forms because my eye is very much attracted to lines and shapes

that come together to create something greater. As well, in many situations forms can

be interpreted very differently by people. I was an architecture student for a couple

years and have a background building homes, so I have become very accustom to

identifying the strengths and weaknesses found within forms. I find homes to be an

incredible form. The homes form can change over time, the paint color, the actual

lines if you remodel, they have potential to take on many shapes based on the EYE

OF THE BEHOLDER

Laura I chose food because food is beautiful! As the saying goes, you eat with

your eyes first. I love the summertime when gardens are blooming and fruits and

vegetables are ready to harvest. Food can be transformed into a succulent pastry,

a lively fruit salad, or a delectable slice of homemade bread. Food is edible art

you can enjoy with every one of the senses. Food is delightful, enchanting,

heartwarming, and most of all beautiful!

Erick - I picked travel because all the pictures that I have taken are when I have

traveled to different places. I have also taken a couple photography classes and

incorporating that with traveling tells a story of what I see from my perspective. Not

only do I find it interesting to see how my pictures turn out but it makes me think why
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN 5

I took the pictures the way that I did. In addition, it is fascinating to see other people

take pictures of when they travel. You learn a lot about a person based on where they

have traveled and what grabs their attention.

Sierra - I chose color as my topic because I am an artist, I see things through an

artists eye. Many of us don't realize how many different colors there are around our

communities. There is green grass, blue skies, and pink flowers...but there is so much

more than that around us. I took the time to take photos of things that everyone sees;

flowers, leaves, etc., but I also wanted to show that not just nature contributes to the

color around us.

Mission Statement

Salt Lake Community College is your community college. We engage and support

students in educational pathways leading to successful transfer and meaningful employment.

Sustainability of Project

We desire the photos submitted to be used by SLCC college students and faculty for use

in school projects, demonstrations, tools for teaching, instruction, etc.

Community-Identified Need

The School of Business is in need of non-copy right images to use in marketing material,

online courses, and instructional material. The photos should communicate common business

concepts taught in our classrooms. The main topics taught are Accounting, Management,

Marketing, Culinary and Hospitality and Legal Studies. Though the pictures should focus on

these concepts, creativity and additional stock photos often help communicate different ideas.
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN 7

Community Involvement

The community will be depicted in our photos through people, places, and objects that

surround our community.

Budget

There is no budget for this project.

Lessons Learned

Communication is key when working in a group, especially with an online class.

Our groups communication was excellent at times and not so great at others. Some

members appeared to be MIA and some members communicated too much. But, in the

end we were all able to communicate clearly, finish the project dutifully, and turn it in on

time. The most important lesson our group learned is that everyone needs to be involved

and do their part to succeed. Our team also learned that sometimes a class does not

always go as planned, being said having a good understanding Professor makes a world

of difference.
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN 9

Successes

To be successful in a group all members must want to succeed. Our group was

focused on making sure we turned in a great project. To succeed we worked together

from the beginning stages of team meetings, followed through with emails, and

contributed by making sure each members assignment was finished appropriately and on

time. We collaborated effectively by stepping up and volunteering to do activities

involved in the project. Our biggest success was learning how to work on a team, and

most of all learning about each team member and their view of beauty.
