Positive Reinforcements
1. Immediate R+: Speaking in Spanish = praise & 1 Pamplona red ribbon for the student who has spoken in Spanish
2. Ongoing R+: Red Pamplona ribbons are tied onto the post. Once the post has been filled with ribbons, (~100) = 1 fuego
(fire) to burn la falla
3. Overall R+: 3 fuegos to burn la falla = Students will participate in Da de cultura, cine, y juegos.
4. Easy Administration of R+: Pamplona ribbons will be handed out to students whenever they have spoken in Spanish. At
the end of the class, students will tie the ribbons to the post. Once the post has been filled to the top, the teacher will
place 1 fuego to burn la falla at the end of the class. At this point, the process will start over again.
Interactive Learning Activity:
114.23. Levels III and IV (1) Communication. The student communicates in a language other than English using the skills
of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. (2) Cultures. The student gains knowledge and understanding of other cultures.
Activities during Da de cultura, cine, y juegos will be as follows
1. Cultura: The teacher will present personal photos and videos of her experience at Las Fallas festival in Valencia, Spain.
Students will design their own falla. Students will vote for the best falla, ultimately to be saved from being burned.
2. Cine: Students will be able to choose to watch a film or television episode in Spanish. During the film, students will
have a video guide to fill out, asking about the main points. Students will have the option of bringing in food to share.
3. Juegos: The teacher will provide a variety of different traditional Spanish games that students can participate it. There
will be damas (checkers), domin (dominoes), Basta! (similar to Scattegories), Fro o Caliente, and Araa. The teacher
will have Chupa Chups (Spanish lollipops) to hand out to all students who participate in games.
Teaching the Expected Behaviors:
The teacher will specifically tell the students that once they enter the classroom they will use Spanish. The teacher will
remind students of how to receive red ribbons and a fuego.
The teacher will post an anchor chart in the room with select phrases to help students (at the beginning of the BCP)
The teacher will have a sign that says HABLA EN ESPAOL! to point at when students speak in English.
This process will be repeated every day.
Teaching the Plan:
The teacher will explain the procedure to earning a Pamplona red ribbon and fuego.
The teacher will post a plan consisting of suggestions and tricks for students to follow to progress and reach Da de
cultura, cine, y juegos.
The teacher will bring in a longer post for students to tie red ribbons onto as the frequency of their Spanish increases.
Some Options Might Be:
Allow students to find the Spanish episode or video to watch and research more into different traditional Spanish games.
Hand out red ribbons to the entire class or small groups instead of individuals
Give out 1 fuego for a day where the entire class exhibits not only the targeted behavior but other positive behaviors.
