THEORY:

Wiring (a process of connecting various accessories for distribution of electrical

energy from suppliers meter board to home appliances such as lamps, fans and other
domestic appliances is known as Electrical Wiring). Electrical wiring composes of electrical
equipment such as cables, switch boards, one way/two way/intermediate switches, main
switches, and miniature circuit breakers (MCB) or fuses, residual current devices (RCD),
lighting points, power points, lightning arrestors, etc. One of the methods can be done for
electrical wiring is a conduit wiring. Electrical conduit wiring provides very good protection to
enclosed conductors from impact, moisture, and chemical vapors. Varying numbers, sizes,
and types of conductors can be pulled into a conduit, which simplifies design and
construction compared to multiple runs of cables or the expense of customized composite
cable. Wiring systems in buildings may be subject to frequent alterations. Frequent wiring
changes are made simpler and safer through the use of electrical conduit, as existing
conductors can be withdrawn and new conductors installed, with little disruption along the
path of the conduit.

PRE-LAB:

Read this document, especially the Experimental Work section. Search the internet and
grasp as much as possible the material before going to the lab.

1. Determine the operation of the following basic wiring accessories and IEE regulations:
i. Two way switch
ii. Celling Rose
2. Define what the Continuity Test complete with diagram.
3. From the schematic diagram below (Figure A), draw the wiring diagram.

NOTE:
Bring references, text books, internet materials to the lab.
Students/Group leader has to get your instructor to approve all your PRE-LAB work before
commencing the experiment. Submit the pre-lab work together with the report.

SAFETY PRECAUTION:

1. Maintain a clean work area at all times.

2. Use suitable personal protection equipment as needed when at the work place.
3. Use safety clothing suitable for the work to be undertaken.
4. Do not wear jewellery or decorative items such as rings, watches, chains, etc.
while carrying out electrical works.
5. Before testing the circuit, ensure that the voltage adjustment and connections is
set correctly.
6. Handle electrical wiring tools, accessories and fittings with caution.
7. Always dry hands completely before touching electrical equipment.
