Take Home Naloxone Kit Training

OPIOIDS (downers), including Fentanyl, are nervous system depressants


that result in decreased heart rate, drowsiness, slow/slurred speech,
constricted pupils and a decreased breathing rate which can lead to an

SYMPTOMS OF AN OPIOID OVERDOSE If you ever have to leave someone alone that you think

Stimulate: if they are unresponsive call 911
Airway: check to see if they are breathing, if not, open their airway and begin rescue breathing
Ventilation: 1 breath every 5 seconds for 2 min, make sure their chest is rising with each breath
Evaluate the situation: after 2 min, check to see if there are any changes, if still not responsive or
adequately breathing, prepare to give Naloxone

Muscular injection of Naloxone


Expose the thigh, divide into thirds, it is middle third where injection will go
Clean area on leg with alcohol swab
Take cap of vial, clean vial with alcohol swab
Put needle tip on to the syringe and draw up the full 1mL of liquid from the vial
Make sure there is no air in the syringe,
Hold the needle like a dart and insert into the thigh at 90
Push down on the plunger slowly and steadily
Remove needle at same angle and dispose of safely

Evaluate again
The Naloxone might take a 1-5 min to kick in,
Continue rescue breathing for another 2 min, if the person is still not responsive then
administer the 2nd dose of Naloxone
Continue rescue breathing until the person is breathing adequately on their own or until help
arrives
If they start breathing on their own, place them in the recovery position
