Abstract:
Bath bomb consists of various natural ingredients and it is shaped into many figures,
which releases bubbles after it touches the water. This can be an excellent experience,
significantly if your bath bomb has a nice smell which allows you to relax and has some of bath
salts because it nourishes your skin. Fizzy bubbles appear in a bath that caused by a chemical
reaction happened by mixture within the bath bomb. In this project, we will create a bath bomb
and determine which natural ingredient and fragrance are the best for our skin which we will use
petals of pink rose to demonstrate how our skin will look like after using the bath bomb.
Question: Which natural ingredient that mixed up in the bath bomb will be the most effective
in making the petal of pink rose invariant in color and appearance?
Hypothesis:
If we use oats and honey bath bomb test with the petals of pink rose, then the petals of
pink roses will look better than others.
Background Research:
They can also have a broad range of recipe, including bath salts, various fragrances,
and other components. Also, there are a few major ingredients that most of the bath bomb
should have, which are baking soda, corn starch, and citric acid. When we mixed the citric acid
and baking soda with some water, chemical reaction occurred. Explicitly, this reaction requires
acid-base chemistry, since citric acid (C6H8O7) is a weak acid, and the baking soda, sodium
bicarbonate (NaHCO3), is a weak base, shown in Equation 1. According to Equation 1, the
acid-base reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, CO2 which this gas is the thing that makes the
fizzy bubbles when you put a bath bomb into a tub that full of water.
Equation 1:
NaHCO3+C6H8O7CO2+H2O+Na3C6H5O7
The acidic or basic thing can be measured by a scale called pH scale, which ranges from 0 to
14. The acid elements are in the pH range of 1-7 (not include 7), while base elements are in the
pH range of 7-14 (not include 7).

Materials:
1. Spoon
2. Bowl
3. Rubber tray with holes
4. Mortar and pestle
5. The main materials for 3-4 pieces: cup of baking soda
cup of citric acid
cup of cornstarch
cup of sea salt
(some scent of bath bomb we added sea salt powder)
cup of olive oil
1 tbs of water
Procedure:
1. Measure cup of baking soda, cup of citric acid, cup of cornstarch, and cup of
sea salt
2. Mix them up in a bowl.
3. Add natural ingredient, olive oil, water, and essential oil (only a few drops of scent) into
another bowl.
4. Slowly add wet mixture into dry mixture because if we add all of it in one time, the
chemical reaction will occur too much
5. Put the mixture into a rubber tray with holes and press them tightly.
6. Allow them to dry completely for about 2-3 days.
7. Draw the bath bombs out of the rubber tray with holes gently.
8. Put same amount of water in five basins to do an experiment
9. Put five different scent bath bomb into five different basins
10. After bath bomb dissolve in water, we will put a few rose petals into the basins and wait
for 1 and a half hours
11. Then, pick them up and put them on tissue paper
Result:
Put the petals of pink roses in bath bomb mixed water for one half hour. Then we leave
the petals of the rose outside for 1 and a half hours and see the result.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, as the result appear that oat and honey is the best bath bomb that
keeping the shape, colour, and moist of the rose petal. The result is as same as our hypothesis
which state that If we use oats and honey bath bomb test with the petals of pink rose, then the
petals of pink roses will look better than others. Also, during this experiment we are having
some of an error consist of: the different size of the bath bomb and also some of the bath bomb
are broken.
Future Direction:
For the future direction, We think that we should make the bath bomb more firm by
leaving it in the block longer because the longer time it leave, the stronger it is which makes us
easier to pick it up from a rubber tray. Moreover, we want to use different recipe and scent for
bath bomb to find the best bath bomb for our skin.
