The principle of sustainable in vernacular architecture

The principle of sustainable in vernacular architecture appears because of the increasing of

human population. We can not deny the fact that the increasing of human population is higher than the
amount of some resource. In result of that, architects think of possible solution and comes up with
making an architecture sustainable, and the easiest way is vernacular architecture.

There are certain ways to make an architecture sustainable. One of them is by making it climate
responsive. The element of building has tobe responsive towards climate ( for example in tropical
climate). Roof of building is better to be higher and gives a maximum shading. Wide opening is also
needed for a good sirculation of air. Many of vernacular architecture has been climate responsive with
their steep roof, stage shape concept, and another supporting element like vegetation , floor , material ,
and building orientation.

The other way to make an architecture sustainable is by making it as an energy saves. Generally,
vernacular architecture uses wood as their prime material. They uses it with a reason. There was a big
amount of forest long time ago, so wood was a perfect source to use. After they fell many tree from
their forest, people go plant them again so te source has been replaced. Vernacular architecture uses
local source , for example they build a house from bamboo when they build it near of bamboo forest.
They uses teak when they build it near to teak forest and so on.

The shape of building also becomes a consideration to make an architecture sustainable. Simple
shape with maximum volume sure will maximize the usage of building and minimize the amount of
material dan energy usage. There are a lot of modern architecture with complicated shape waste too
much money and energy for nosignificant reason.

So, we need to maintain our vernacular architecture to protect our resource that has been
drained by irresponsible people. The principle of sustainable architecture will save a lot of sources for
long enough after many trees are fallen down
