Class Description:
Students in our Moderate Programs who receive a Certificate of Completion from Sweetwater Union
High School District are eligible for a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) until they reach
age 22. The services provided to students between ages 18-22 depend on their individual needs
and will include Specialized Academic Instruction in the following areas: Vocational Skills,
Community Skills, Independent Living Skills, Recreation & Leisure Skills, Self-Advocacy Skills,
Lifelong Learning Skills, etc.

To support your transition into our program, we highly recommend students have:

Desire to Work
Good Attendance and Behavior
Birth Certificate, SSN and California ID Card
Compass Combo Card (MTS)
Practice in Public Safety/Transportation & Money Use in Community

Class Expectations and Procedures:


Attendance: Students are expected to attend class daily. ABSENCES MUST BE REPORTED TO CVHS
ATTENDANCE OFFICE (619) 476-3310. Students should notify teacher of any upcoming absences in
advance and make appropriate arrangements for missed assignment(s). Consequences may
include: loss of community/class activity privilege, alternate assignment to complete on-campus,
student-staff conference, parent/guardian contact (when needed), doctors note, home-visit by
administration, absences reported to agencies (Regional Center, SSI, etc), IEP Goal(s), etc.

Bank Account: Incoming students will be expected to open a bank account during a CBI trip this
year. *Further details to follow prior to trip. **Funds will be managed between Staff and Student.

Behavior: All school rules and policies will be strictly enforced. *Please see Student Handbook

Cell Phones: *Students responsibility at all times. Staff is not responsible for lost, stolen or misplaced items.
Classroom Not permitted. Must be kept in students backpack.
CBIs Allowed ONLY when staff permits (e.g. set timer, travel plan) for safety purposes.

Classroom Management Systems: Reinforcement Card, Behavior Chart, Leader Board, etc.

Cooking/Craft Lessons: Unless previously budgeted, a $3.00 donation is suggested per student
for supplies. Please refer to Class Texts and/or Class Calendar for specified days.

Discipline: Verbal Warning, Cool down/Break, Loss of class/community privilege, Loss/deduction


of pay (i.e. Workability), Referral, Saturday School, Staff-Student Conference, IEP Meeting/Goal(s),
Change of Placement, etc. Parent/Guardian may be contacted (when necessary).

Hygiene: *Work place hygiene standards will be enforced. Students are expected DAILY to:
Bathe, wear clean clothing, use deodorant, proper grooming (hair, nails), brush/floss teeth, etc.
Hygiene Kit Area provided in class and breaks embedded in daily schedule. Consequences
may include: student-staff conference, sent to nurse, loss of class/community/work activity
and/or pay, parent/guardian contact, IEP meeting, report to agencies, etc.

Instructional Methods: Community-Based Instruction (CBI), Video modeling, Class discussions,


Role-playing, Guided instruction, Independent/Group activities, IEP Participation, Volunteer, Work
Experience, Workability, etc.

Meetings/Visitors: Any meeting requests or visits from parents/others REQUIRE a previous ly


scheduled date and time between teacher and parent/other. No unexpected visits permitted during
school hours. Annual/Triennial IEP Meetings: Will be led by student (Person-Driven) with
parents/agencies (if appropriate) invited.

Mobility: Our program is in the community up to 5-days/week via Community-Based Instruction


(CBI), Public Transportation, walking, etc. Please plan and dress accordingly. *Parents/Guardians :
Please support your students learning process by refraining from contacting/attending places your
student may be expected to be in the community during school hours. Thank you.

Nutrition/Lunch: To prepare students for Independent Living, students bring (and/or budget) their
own snacks and lunches daily.

Required Documents: Copy of Birth Certificate, Certificate of Completion, Social


Security Card, SSI (if eligible), California ID, Compass Combo Card, Workability Packet, etc.

Restroom: With staffs permission, students may use restroom after they sign-in/-out (on sheet by
classroom door) and use the Hall Pass.

Grading: Grading Scale:


In addition to various assignments/projects, students will earn A 100% - 90%
points daily based on a teacher-created checklist; to include but B 89% - 80%
not limited to: Attendance, Hygiene, Participation, etc. C 79% - 70%
D 69% - 60%
F 59% - 0%
