UNUSUAL OVERLOAD CONDITION ON 25-CVR-07 DOL
Date: 9 August 2017
INDUCTION MOTOR

GENERAL INFORMATION
Equipment Number : 25-CVR-07 Plant Area : Ores Preparation Plant (OPP)
Specific Equipment
: CVR-07 DOL Induction Motor Persons in Charge Rafi, Yudho, Arsyad
Affected

EVENT DESCRIPTION
CVR-07 was frequently tripped for several times due to over-load during normal running condition

MAIN EVENT
Drawn current of CVR-07 motor was too high during empty and normal load condition. The current reading in empty load condition was 28 A
(97% of its full-load ampere). Moreover, the current reading at flow rate of 732 TPH was 34A (117% of its full-load ampere). Noted that the
motor full-load ampere (FLA) is 29 A (Name-plate).

SECONDARY EVENT
Shutdown for all crushing section units if CVR-07 motor is stopped

FINDINGS & ROOT CAUSES

Carried out insulation measurement (Megger test) on the CVR-07 motor termination and power cable. Results reflected good insulation
condition.

Inspection found that there was intensive friction activity between the conveyor belt and the huge stack of harden mix of ores+cement at
the CVR-07 head-chute. This event led the CVR-07 motor to draw higher current even in no load condition.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Operation cleaned half portion of the stacking harden mix of ores + cement at CVR-07 head-chute.
Hence, significant reduction of measured current was achieved. As comparison, the current reading in empty load condition reduced to 14A
(reading prior cleaning action was 28A) and during normal load condition (760TPH), the current reading significantly reduced to only 25A
(reading prior cleaning action was 34A @732 TPH load).
Adjusted the thermal overload (TOL) setting to 35A (120% x FLA)
Adjustment and parameters checks of the current tranducer could not be achieved since it was no access / unreachable. This parameter is
important to be used to verify motor's current reading range in SCADA since it is showed only in percentage.

NOTES

Unfortunately, cleaning action on the stacking harden mix of ores+cement was only carried out for half portion.

We should have had lower current reading when there is only negligible amount of hardened mix of ores+cement at the CVR-07 head-
chute (no friction with the belt conveyor).
Therefore, scheduled cleaning action on the stacking harden mix of ores+cement at CVR-07 head-chute is highly recommended for the
upcoming OPP shutdown.

CVR-07 Motor Current Transmitter's Trend

Fluctuation of CVR-07 motor current transmitter from
7.34 - 13.34 (prior 9-Aug-17 OPP Shutdown) is
shown in this figure.

At certain points, the recorded current value was

exceeding the upper limit range of the current
display.
Unfortunately, we could not verify the transducer
output value since it was unreachable to carry
out parameters check/setting.
So, the range of current displayed in SCADA is
not yet verified.
