This exam is for 75 minutes only. Use only black or blue pen. Provide NEAT and COMPLETE
and ORGANIZED solutions. Box all final answers. Calculators are not allowed.

I. Do as indicated.

1. Show that 1 + tan2 x = sec x is not an identity.
2. Explain why cos 2 > cos 3.
3. Find the equation of the line passing through the origin and P ().

4. Show that for any R, P = (sin , cos ).

5. Show that for any k Z, P = (cos 25 , sin 25 ).

sin 2 cos 2 + 1
2. =
cos 2 1 2 sin 3

IV. Arms spread out sideways, the four Teletubbies, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-laa, and Po form a perfect
circle by connecting their fingertips. Tinky Winky, being the largest Teletubby, has the largest arm

span. His arms form an arc with respect to the center of the circle. The arc subtends an angle of
3
3
radians. The radius of the circle is feet.
2
Hand in hand, the four Teletubbies move along the circle: in the process, they rotate the circle coun-
2
terclockwise around the center. Tinky Winkys right hand travels feet from its original position.
9
Find the measure of the central angle subtended by the initial position of Tinky Winkys
right hand and the final position of Tinky Winkys left hand.
