In our endeavor as San Diego business leaders and compassionate, civic minded citizens of this great
city, below is a compilation of over 200 San Diegans who invested the time to study what we know is a
Best in Class impactful and necessary way to help address San Diegos homelessness crisis. As
previously noted, for over a year we have hosted weekly homelessness meetings and several fact-based
homeless symposiums. San Diego leaders from areas including business, philanthropy, politics,
education and medical have collaborated with us and participated in deep, healthy, analytics-based
debates on homelessness.
These serious-minded San Diego leaders have come together to carefully review San Diegos homeless
problem and have explored multiple concepts, plans, and ideas concerning potential short-term and
long-term strategies.
Among our conclusions is that Housing First is required for us to reach a best in class destination.
Additionally, we think it is critical for us to acknowledge that there are short-term humanitarian
obligations which require immediate attention and action.
While Housing First is our long-term focus, we have proposed a plan to begin to address this human
tragedy now and provide an important bridge to Housing First. It is a results-oriented, fact-based plan
to take the most vulnerable of the population off the streets (first) in an organized manner and to begin
providing basic, fundamentally-sound health and social service assessments. The plan will efficiently and
cost effectively use Industrial Tents as temporary bridge housing to provide the homeless person
with shelter and a customized best in class path off the streets. The success of our plan will be
measurable as both the unsheltered homeless count and death rate will steadily decrease.
While we certainly know that no 100% solution or perfect answers exists, we continue to feel an
intense sense of urgency to take significant steps to address our current crisis. Our concept is one such
step.
