Employability : Asia and Europe prepare the new generation

Survive or evolve?

I believe that employability is a matter of either wanting to just get by and surviving, or wanting
to optimize my capabilities and evolving. However, I also believe in the inevitability of
unemployment. So how do I put these two opposing beliefs on the same page? By creating
connections from their differences. This is what the ASEAN Economic Community and
European Union aims to achieve: to create connections between the different member countries
toward the common goal of development.

With the ASEAN integration currently in full swing, it would be very timely to discuss the
involvement of the European Union with the ASEAN Economic Community. Although the two
communities work on opposite ends in terms of culture and social status, the coming together of
these two communities could very well spark an economic boom for both sides of the world.

The EU works in roughly the same way as the AEC. Being more established, the EU can greatly
contribute in the further development of the AEC agreements towards not only a peaceful but
also a healthy economic community. The Amsterdam Treaty of 1997 was signed into the union
in order to make employment as one the objectives of the union. AEC, however, does not
currently have any employment treaties. I believe that the EUs involvement with the AEC
especially in establishing employment treaties would benefit both parties greatly.

Moreover, the ARC5 students forum would be the perfect stage to share my thoughts on how
the AEC works against unemployment within its community. Although this idea provides for a
wider market between the participating countries, it also poses certain challenges, in terms of
globally competent citizens. So in response to this demand of globally competent skilled
workers, I would highlight how the educational system has adopted certain changes to ensure
that the citizens of the participating countries can optimize their opportunities as a member of the
AEC.

In conclusion, I think this all boils down to wanting to evolve as a more productive member of
the community. All the opportunities have already been laid out before of us by our leaders, all
thats left is to grab this opportunity and embrace the change.
