This is my pleasure to announce publication of our annual report for the year 2009-
2010. This financial year was the most successful year for all of us in the organization.
It was a nice escalation point for us and for our programs, including the human rights,
water & sanitation and child related ones, got memorandum.
DSUS started working in Uttara Dhaka District of Bangladesh in 1st April 2001 in
response to the human rights needs of the rural & urban poor. Since then DSUS
strategy has been identify the needs of our society and to provide Financial, advisory
and other supports to mitigate the sufferings of them, specially the poor women,
through various projects.
Our programs are so designed that they aim to empower women by providing
financial assistance so that they can engage themselves in income generating
activities. We closely monitor the progress, and provide advisory and training services
in full extent, resides, we extend in our credit areas with health, education, sanitation,
environment, nutrition services and other efforts to make it integrated, result-based
and goal-oriented.
I want to convey my warm gratitude for all of our friends, especially our staff
members, who play the central role in making our efforts successful and thaking the
donors and other concerns in this Journey with us.

DSUS passed another eventful year 2009-2010. The experience that has been
accumulated in 2009-2010 is a great asset for all the staff and, volunteers of DSUS,
which will lead all of us to materialize our dream "A Prosperous Bangladesh" There
are so many problems to face in our initiatives including the challenge of eradication
of poverty.
Finally, I would like to thank all of my colleagues at DSUS for their relentless effort
to make all the programs successful during the year. Thanks go to the donors/partners,
who have provided us financial and Technical assistance in implementing all of the
programs. I like to thank Executive Committee (EC) and General Committee (GC)
members for their time and support for smooth implementation of the project
activities. My sincerest appreciation goes to all of the micro-credit group members,
child groups and beneficiaries of other programs for their co-operation.

Background :
Diganta Samagik Unnayan Shongstha (DSUS) was set up by the initiative of a
urban & rural man & woman together with a few of his like minded male &
female friends in a urban & rural part of Uttara under Dhaka district but located in
the bed of Dhaka in 1st April 2001. Principal they remembered and followed the
motto of great on. The organization adopted the strategy of attach phases as
women’s institution, education, health, environment, human right’s and financial
improvement as major in attaining of their development goals.
Introduction:
Diganta Samagik Unnayan Shongstha (DSUS) is a Non-government, Non-
Political voluntary development organization founded on 1st April 2001 since
inception, it has been involved in organizing the efforts leading to the development
of the under privileged people. It has been operating and integrated development
program in the mid region of Bangladesh.
Legal statues:
As an NGO, Diganta Samagik Unnayan Shongstha (DSUS) is registered with
“Department of Social Welfare” and also with the “Joint Stock Companies &
Firms” of Govt. Republic of Bangladesh. The registration numbers of the
organization are given below :

Target Group:
As a women headed and women focus organization Diganta Samagik Unnayan
Shongstha (DSUS) considers the people, as it’s prime development partners i.e.
distress women, adolescents, girls, children, land less male aborigines and also
those with disabilities. Ultra hardcore poor, hardcore poor, poor women and
children, Micro entrepreneurs of rural and slums of Bangladesh.
Vision:
The poor and underprivileged people are poor and underprivileged because they
have consecutively been exploited by the rich. They will work for the betterment
of their life. The organization will just play the role of a catalyst.
Mission:
Bangladesh is a village based country inhabited by the poor class people of whom
60% are underprivileged. They sell their labor to the rich. They are not conscious
of even aware of their rights on the society. They are deprived of productive
resources. This difference between the poor and the rich is geometrically
increasing. If these people are provided with various skill development training, It
is expected that they themselves could bring about desired changes in their quality
of living.

Goal:
To assist the target people to promote them it the process of development
activities. So that they can change the quality of their living statue, by utilizing
local and national resources.
Objectives of DSUS:
DSUS is a non-profitable, volunteer, Non-political organization.
To empower and aware the target groups about the exploitative socio-economic
and make them critically conscious.
Te develop the target group management professional skill so that they can get
earning scope and self-employment opportunity through income generation
activities.
To establish women and child rights at all levels of the society.
The protect the degrading situation of the environment by maintaining
ecological balance.
To involve the group members in various field of development through a
participatory process.

To provide credit among the target people t reduce dependence of bank and
local moneylenders.
To make the grass-roots community aware of the preventive measure of the
basic diseases and try to provide health facilities through satellite clinic.
To educate the target groups on different aspects of improving their life and
imparting educational skill so that community people can read, write and sign
their name with numeric.
To establish training program at different levels of the society.

To involve the group members with land reform development through a
sharing process.
To establish any technical Center and any new program in working areas.
To establish poultry and livestock farm to all levels of society.
To response disaster and reducing loss of assets and also undertake different
activities such as: preparedness, awareness raising, relief and rehabilitation and
development programs will be undertaken.
To create employment opportunity for the people through intergraded pest
management by undertaking agriculture programs.
To establish water sanitation, arsenic mitigation programs at all levels of
society.
To establish disability program to all levels of society.
To form the community Folk singer/singers groups to keep up traditional
culture in the community for back-to-back cultural wariness.
Development Concept:
Working with people through groups.
Initiating a process of critically awareness at the grass-roots levels.
Establishing linkages with after private agencies and national level
development agencies of the government.
Reviewing and assessing the own role of the DSUS.

Ongoing Program :
Programs can divide into two categories. Main programs and support programs.
These programs are shown below.
a. Group formation:
Group formation is the primary and important element of the organization
among the target group. The target group is always scattered and they are not
organized. So it is the prior work to organize them into groups and reach the
project input there so that the could bring their changes through their groups
activities. Regular’s savings and credit disbursement for employment creation
and income rising art the important work of the groups towards institution
building Institution is the main of the groups. Group formation has been
considered as an entry program of DSUS and groups on normally formed with
100% poor and under privileged people. The basic concept of DSUS
Development is not possible to the total development of female participation.
The development work then possible to the total development. So DSUS has
been giving emphasis on the development of the women, as they are most
disadvantaged growing up in the society.

c. Training Program :
Training can play important role to bring socio-economic changes. It helps
people to acquire knowledge and develop skill. To get training means learning
process. At present training has been playing a very strong role for the
development of disadvantaged people. As a development organization, DSUS
also puts special emphasis on training. The recipients of training are the staffs
of the organization and its beneficiaries. The staff members need training to

improve their efficiency so that they can serve their beneficiaries specially the
women group members in a better way. Beneficiaries are training to build
awareness, to acquire knowledge and to develop their skill. So the group
members of the organization received human development training for building
awareness, acquiring knowledge and skill development training. Regarding
staff training DSUS generally sends its staff members to various training given
agencies. But the human development training course for the beneficiaries are
generally organized and conducted by DSUS itself. For skill development
training courses. DSUS hirers experts and resource persons from outsides
(Govt. agencies and the NGO’s who are locally DSUS available). Details of
staff & beneficiaries. DSUS categories its training services in two major areas.

e. Fisheries Program:
Above-mentioned these program organization workers are launching strong
motivation fisheries program working areas of the organization. Trained staffs
supervise this project. The organization primary started fish farming activities

for demonstration. In the time off cultivation and harvesting the group
members are invited to observe and to give them practical education to
motivated and inspired them for future fish farming.
So now they fisheries program from joint pond. At present organization is
producing low cost fisheries program in join group members and introduction
to the communities by installation.

j. Plantation:
Above-mentioned these program organization workers are launching strong
motivation and technical assistance to the Plantation program working areas of
the organization. Group members are now very conscious for the need of
plantation.

Organization Management:
Management of the DSUS is fully participatory in terms of implementation and
policy making. It is the biggest strengths of the organization. It has a General
Committee and an Executive Committee. These are the highest body of the
implementation and policy making of any kind of project and policy
implementation for improvement of the rural poor. Executive Committee is
comprised the people of different walks of life who are dedicated and have
adequate experiences on dynamism of rural society. Participation of civil
society is another important side of the management so that civic engagement
is being possible for project implementation in every sphere. The meeting of
Executive Committee is held on every month They make policy and plan for
the organization and monitor of the project. DSUS has a set of skilled staff that
is highly experienced. Educated and dedicated for the organization. Among
them most of the staff are initiators of building of the organization.
As a result they always try to make the strong participation in implementing of
any kind of projects smoothly and properly. The Chairman is the main
executive for management and implementation of the project. A group of
workers always help him to implement the project activities. Account system is
very active and accountable to the Chairman and Executive Committee.
Regular internal audit of the organization is held. The management of the
DSUS is vested in the executive committee and the E.C. is elected by and
answerable to the general body. There exist two different bodies is DSUS. One
is General and the other is Executive Committee. General body, it consists of
51 members who comes from the various cross section of the sorely, but mostly
the members of women beneficiary groups some of them have different
profession like. Non-govt. services holder’s social worker. Executive
Committee, Comprise of 17 members elected by the general body for a period
of two years. The secretary/ The Chairman is the Chief functionary of the
organization.

Staffing:
There is a team of 34 personnel as the DSUS working force to run the
program’s efficiently who are mostly trained in the various aspens of
development and management, The Chairman is the leader of whole staff while
Coordinator bears second ranking position according to the Organ gram of
organization. In addition good number workers are engaged in project level
with different programs.
Conclusion:
This report express the real statement of DSUS we are grateful to the group
members staff, board members and concerned Govt. and Non-Govt.
organization for their cooperation and positive assistance bring to this program.
Fund crisis, weak management, lack of DSUS available communication
facilities, composition were drawbacks to goal ahead. Yet we have tried to face
and over come these obstacles to become successful with our strong
commitment and confidence. This organization will advance towards our
desired goal according to plan.
Notes: In future when the organization will be expanded any activities may be
changed.
