Term 2 5% of Year Assessment Semester/Year Semester 2 2017
Teacher Mrs Morritt Assessment Task 11 Chemical Reactions.
Assessment Task 11 Submission / 30 Marks

Teachers of Year 8 Science are excited to have you come and demonstrate your chemical reactions
to their classes. They would like you to provide some more information, to make sure the reaction
that you are demonstrating is safe, interesting and can be applied to real-life reactions.

1. Classify your reaction into one of the General Reactions that are listed on your Task Brief.
(1 mark)

2. Write the word equation for your reaction. (2 marks)

3. From your equation name the reactants. (1 mark)

4. Describe the reactants you will use. (What do they look like, smell like etc?) (2 marks)

5. From your equation name the products. (1 mark)

6. Describe the products formed. (What do they look like, smell like etc?) (2 marks)
7. You used the molecular model kits to make molecules of the reactants and products.
a. Draw the reactant molecules, and or atoms (2 marks)

b. Draw the product molecules, and or atoms. (2 marks)

8. Write two paragraphs which clearly outline the safety considerations of this reaction for
both the presenter and the students watching. (6 marks)
9. Write two paragraphs to the Year 8 Science Teachers in which you justify why you chose the
reaction that you will demonstrate to younger students.

Consider (a) how interesting the reaction is and (3 marks)

(b) how this reaction is used in nature or everyday situations. (3 marks)
10. Discuss or show any other facts about your reaction that you have researched and learned.
For example; discuss the energy involved, the Collision Theory, dangers or safety of the
chemicals or the reaction. Present this section as writing, a diagram, or an Infographic.
