5 Use

5.1 Operating principle

The ENDOCAM Logic HD Controller camera provides digital Medical HD
or Full HD video signals (HDMI), in particular for image display on a 16:9
LCD monitor.
The device parameters are controlled and set via the touchscreen on the
camera controller or the OSD (On-Screen Display) using the handheld
control or PC keyboard.
Optional extension modules allow the output of serial digital signals via
(1080p/1080i/720p) or analog video signals (PAL/NTSC).
The optional PIP (Picture in Picture) module serves to simultaneously
display a images from a second digital image source (SDI, HD-SDI,
3G-SDI).
The color properties of the illumination are called color temperatures and
are specified in Kelvin (K). Higher color temperatures are blueish, lower
color temperatures are reddish.
To display an image in natural colors, a white balance must be carried out
before the first use and after each change of the light projector or
endoscopic instrument.
The white balance serves to adjust color gain factors for the red and blue
portions of the video image in such a way that they match the color tem
perature of the light projector and therefore render an image with opti
mum colors, rendering white objects as completely white.
On the camera controller white balancing is possible for a color tempera
ture range between 2300 K and 7000 K.

5.2 Control elements and operating modes

5.2.1 "Dialog" function

The dialog function allows communication between the camera controller
and a dialog capable light projector.
The dialog function uses the fast ELC control of the camera controller to
adapt image brightness while the light projector is equipped with automa
tic brightness control.
Automatic brightness control "ELC" of the camera controller must be swit
ched on.
The brightness control on the light projector is automatically controlled via
the camera controller, manual brightness selection on the light projector
is not possible.
The above requires a connection between the devices using a CAN BUS
connection cable (see connection diagram in section 1).

. NOTE!
We recommend working with the the activated dialog function at all times.
In the case of malfunction of the dialog function, adjust the light projector
manually if required.

GA-A 282 17
VISH211

5.2.2 Automatic brightness control (ELC)

The automatic brightness control ELC (Electronic Light Control) of the
camera controller allows the use of light projectors without light control
and light projectors with deactivated brightness control.
Advantage of ELC: very fast response to the image brightness.

. IMPORTANT!
To avoid unnecessary heating of the endoscope, set the light intensity of
the light projector to a medium value.
Do not use the ELC function in conjunction with a video control of the light
projector (deactivate the video control) as this would lead to undesirable
brightness fluctuations of the image.

5.2.3 Temperature protection circuit

Covered louvers/vents slots in the rear panel or bottom plate of the
device or insufficient air circulation can cause a temperature increase
inside the device.
This may have a negative impact on image quality and in extreme cases
may lead to device failure.
A temperature protection circuit monitors the device temperature and is
sues a warning in case of temperature increase. There is no automatic
over-temperature cutout.
The fan speed is controlled as a function of temperature.
