OptiX RTN 980L IP LH Product Structure...Page 25
The OptiX RTN 980L mainly applies to long haul trunk and metropolitan backbone
networks.
The OptiX RTN 980L can transmit Ethernet and SDH/PDH services separately or in hybrid
mode. The OptiX RTN 980L supports N+0 (N 14) and N+1 (N 11) configurations for
microwave links. Two cascaded OptiX RTN 980Ls support 16+0 microwave links on one
antenna. The OptiX RTN 980L applies to the following scenarios:
Large-capacity and long haul trunk transmission
Large-capacity microwave ring network
Aggregation and backhaul on a mobile network
The OptiX RTN 980L can form a chain or ring network and aggregate services from other
RTN short haul microwave equipment through its air interface
The OptiX RTN 980L uses the ISV3 board and RFU to implement long haul transmission. It
can also use the ISV3, ISU2, and ISX2 boards together with the ODU to aggregate services
from multi-direction short haul microwave links. In this slide will focus on long haul
features and hardware.
The OptiX RTN 980L long haul system is composed of a powerful TDM/Hybrid/Packet
integrated IDU 980L, a high-performance high-power radio frequency unit (RFU), and a
scalable branching unit (BU).
OptiX RTN 980L V100R007C00 supports split structure.
An IDU 980L connects to an RFU through an IF cable.
An RFU is directly mounted on a BU.
A BU connects to an antenna through a flexible waveguide. In space diversity (SD)
mode, a BU connects to an SD antenna through an elliptical waveguide.
The IDU 980L is the indoor unit. It accesses services, performs services processing and IF
processing, and provides system control and communication function.
The IF cable provides -48V power for ODU and transmits the IF signal and ODU
management signal between IDU and ODU.
According to the distance between IDU and ODU, there are 3 types IF cables can be
chosen:
5D IF cable is used for distance less than 120 meter
RG-8U cable is used for the distance between 120m and 180m
1/2 inch cable is used for the distance between 180m and 300m
A 5D cable connects the IF interface of an ODU to the IF interface of an IDU. An RG-8U
cable or 1/2-inch cable connects the IF interface of an ODU to the IF jumper of an IDU.
As the transceiver of the OptiX RTN 980L long haul system, an RFU performs functions
such as frequency conversion and amplification of signals.
An RFU is used outdoors and has an integrated structure.
RFUs are available in two types: RFU-SD and RFU-nonSD.
RFU-SD: space diversity (SD) receiver and IF combination supported. It provides
three RF ports: Tx, Rx-main and Rx-SD.
RFU-nonSD: SD not supported. It provides two RF ports: Tx and Rx. It provides a
cost-effective solution for scenarios with relatively good propagation conditions.
The above figure shows the appearance of an RFU-SD.
RFU port: A branching unit provides four RFU ports so that RFUs can mount to it.
Main antenna port: The main antenna port is connected to the main antenna.
Main cascade port: The main cascade port is connected to the main antenna port on the
secondary branching unit
SD antenna port (available only on BU-SD models): The SD antenna port is connected to
the SD antenna.
SD cascade port (available only on BU-SD models): The SD cascade port is connected to the
SD antenna port on the secondary branching unit
Lifting eye: The lifting eye is used to tie with the lifting sling.
Bracket and hold hoop: The bracket and hold hoop fix a branching unit onto a pole.
When two branching units are cascaded, the branching unit that is directly connected to
an antenna is called the main branching unit and the other one that is not directly
connected to an antenna is called the secondary branching unit.
There are two methods of mounting the ODU and the antenna: direct mounting and
separate mounting.
The direct mounting method is normally adopted when a small-diameter and
single-polarized antenna is used. In this situation, if one ODU is configured for one
antenna, the ODU is directly mounted at the back of the antenna. If two ODUs are
configured for one antenna, an RF signal combiner/splitter (hereinafter referred to
as a hybrid coupler) must be mounted to connect the ODUs to the antenna.
The separate mounting method is adopted when a dual-polarized antenna or big-
diameter and single-polarized antenna is used. In this situation, a hybrid coupler
can be mounted. That is, two ODUs share one feed boom.
The single-polarized antenna radiates or receives the electromagnetic waves in a specific
polarization direction. The single-polarized antenna provides a feed boom interface.
The dual-polarized antenna radiates and receives vertically polarized electromagnetic
waves and horizontally polarized electromagnetic waves at the same time. The dual-
polarized antenna provides two feed boom interfaces, which are vertically and horizontally
polarized.
The OptiX RTN 900 provides an antenna solution that covers the entire frequency band,
and supports single-polarized antennas and dual-polarized antennas with diameters of 0.3
m to 3.7 m along with the corresponding feeder system.
The adaptive modulation (AM) technology adjusts the modulation scheme automatically
based on channel quality.
When the AM technology is adopted, in the case of the same channel spacing, the
microwave service bandwidth varies according to the modulation scheme; the higher the
modulation efficiency, the higher the bandwidth of the transmitted services.
When the channel quality is good (such as on days when weather conditions are
favorable), the equipment adopts a high-efficiency modulation scheme to transmit
more user services. This improves transmission efficiency and spectrum utilization
of the system.
When the channel quality deteriorates (such as on days with adverse weather), the
equipment adopts a low-efficiency modulation scheme to transmit only higher-
priority services within the available bandwidth while discarding lower-priority
services. This method improves anti-interference capabilities of the radio link, which
helps ensure the link availability for higher-priority services.
The IDU 980L is the indoor unit of the OptiX RTN 980L.
The IDU 980L adopts the card plug-in design. It can implement different functions by
configuring different types of boards.
All the service boards support hot-swapping.
An RTN 980L has 19 slots numbered from left to right and up to down. As in the figure:
There are 7 groups of the paired slots 1 and 2, slots 3 and 5, slots 4 and 6, slots 7 and 9,
slots 8 and 10, slots 11 and 13, and slots 12 and 14. The paired slots are used in the 1+1
FD configuration.
The OptiX RTN 980L software consists of IDU software and RFU software.
The OptiX RTN 980L uses Qx interfaces to communicate with the iManager U2000 or Web LCT. The Qx
interfaces are management protocol interfaces designed for Huawei's OptiX equipment. The protocol stack
and messages used by Qx interfaces are developed based on ITU-T G.773, ITU-T Q.811, and ITU-T Q.812.
The OptiX RTN 980L provides a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent, so a third-party
centralized NMS can query alarms, performance events, and many configuration data through SNMP
interfaces.
OptiX NEs send network management messages with each other using the HWECC protocol or IP protocol.
The RFU software manages and controls the running status of the RFU. The RFU software controls the running
of the RFU based on the parameters transmitted by the IDU software. The RFU running status is reported to
the IDU software.
The IDU software consists of NE software and board software.
The NE software manages, monitors, and controls the running status of the IDU. Through
the NE software, the NMS communicates with boards, and manages the NE. The NE
software communicates with the RFU software to manage and control the operation of the
RFU.
The board software manages and controls the running status of other boards of the IDU
except the system control, switching, and timing board. The board software of the Ethernet
interface board or Ethernet processing board is stand-alone and runs board CPU. Software
of other boards is integrated as software modules with the NE software and runs in the
CPU of the system control, switching, and timing board.
The OptiX RTN 980L consists of a series of functional units, including the service interface
unit, timeslot cross-connect unit, packet switching unit, IF unit, control unit, clock unit,
auxiliary interface unit, fan unit, power unit, RFU, antenna, and branching unit.
The IF board receives and transmits 1x IF signal. It realizes the conversion between
baseband digital signal and IF signal, it also provides -48V DC power supply and
management signal to the RFU.
The ODU-PWR switch is equipped with a lockup device. To turn on or turn off the switch,
you need to first pull the switch lever outwards slightly. When the switch is set to "O", it
indicates that the circuit is open. When the switch is set to "I", it indicates that the circuit is
closed.
ISV3 boards function as SDH IF boards to transmit SDH radio services, or as Integrated IP
radio IF boards to transmit Integrated IP radio services (native E1+Ethernet or native STM-
1+Ethernet). Should transmission capacity need to be expanded, XPIC is supported.
Supports QPSK to 1024QAM modulation plus QPSK/16QAM strong FEC, and 512QAM
light FEC.
Supports integrated IP microwave and SDH microwave and service modes such as Native
E1+Ethernet, Native STM-1+Ethernet, and SDH (1xSTM-1 or 2xSTM-1).
Supports Ethernet frame header compression.
Supports the physical link aggregation (PLA) function.
ML1/MD1 support 75 E1 coaxial wire pair and 120 E1 symmetrical wire pair.
The SP3S has two functional versions: SL91SP3SVER.B and SL91SP3SVER.C. The SP3D also
has two functional versions: TNH1SP3DVER.B and TNH1SP3DVER.C. The difference
between VER.B and VER.C is that path indication on the front panel is optimized and the
board power consumption is reduced.
In the case of the OptiX RTN 910/950/980, only the ports 1-16 and 22-37 of the SP3D
interface are used. Ports 1-16correspond to E1 signals 1-16 and ports 22-37 correspond to
E1 signals 17-32.
The Ethernet interface board can realize the following functions when working with the
packet switching board:
Supports port-based, port+VLAN-based, and port+QinQ E-Line services.
Supports 802.1d bridge-based, 802.1q bridge-based, and 802.1ad bridge-based E-
LAN services.
The Ethernet boards can process 1518 bytes to 9600 bytes frame length.
Supports the link aggregation group (LAG) function.
Supports the Ethernet ring protection switching (ERPS).
The LINK1 and LINK2 indicators are available only on the EM6F and indicate the states of
the corresponding GE optical interfaces.
On the NMS, GE1 and GE2 correspond to PORT1 and PORT2 respectively; FE1 to FE4
correspond to PORT3 to PORT6 respectively.
The performance of the FE service ports on the EM6T/EM6F complies with the
10/100BASE-T(X) standard; the performance of the GE service ports on the EM6T and
EM6F (if SFP electrical modules are used) complies with the 10/100/1000BASE-T(X)
standard.
All service ports support the MDI, MDI-X, and auto-MDI/MDI-X modes.
The CSHL can be inserted in slots 15 and 20. For the NMS to manage function units on the
CSHL, the function units are mapped into specific logical boards and allocated proper
logical slots on the NMS.
The PIU supports power access, power protection, surge protection status monitoring, and
information reporting.
Do not remove or install a PIU while the equipment is powered on. That is, turn off all the
power supplies of the PIU before removing or installing it.
This section describes the service signal processing flow when the OptiX RTN 980L uses
packet radio to transmit a mix of Ethernet and CES E1 services.
OptiX RTN 980L integrates TDM, Hybrid, and Packet microwave on one platform.
