Passive Voice:

Therere many reasons why passive voice is used: Who did the action is not known, irrelevant, for
formality Etc.... (Check the uses on your book)

Therere some steps you can follow to change an active voice sentence to a passive voice one:

1 To have you sentence in PV, your Act voice sentence must contain: SUBJECT, VERB and
COMPLEMENT: The American Government is building a new project for African children. If your
sentences do not present these parts its no possible to change it.

2 After dividing you AV sentence in Subject, verb and complement, take the complement of your AV
sentence and put as the subject of your PV sentence: A NEW PROJECT FOR AFRICAN CHILDREN

3 MOST IMPORTANT PART: You need to find the tense (simple present, past etc.) and apply it on a verb to
be. After you put the to be in the right verb form, complete it with the Past Participle of the main verb in
AVS (to build past participle = built)

PAY ATTENTION if you AVS has already a verb to be as auxiliary youll have two form of the verb to be
(as the example) AVS = is building (present continuous) Present continuous of the verb to be = is being.
PVS VERB: IS BEING BUILT

4 Join your parts together: A new project for African children is being built (you can add the subject of
the AVS with the preposition BY if you want) A new project for African children is being built by the
American Government
