Introduction
Akal
The Akal structure is a faulted, asymmetric
anticline with northwest-to-southeast
orientation dipping smoothly to the south
and sharply to the north and northeast. It is
bounded to the west by a normal fault and
to the north and northeast by reverse fault.
LOCAL STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
Nohoch
The Nohoch structure is a slightly elongated anticline with the same
northwest-to-southeast orientation that is affected by a series of normal and
reverse faults on the west flank in the same direction.
Chac
The Chac structure is northwest-to-southeast trending structure nose truncated
by a normal fault that separates it from Nohoch fields.
LOCAL STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
Kutz
KUTZ is an elongated, anticlinal structure oriented
northwest to southeast. It is bounded by two faults parallel
to its axis: a reverse fault to the west and normal fault in
the east.
YEAR OF DISCOVERY AND START OF
PRODUCTION
The idea of the discovery did
not leave Cantarell alone. Ten
years after he discovered the
spot, an oil friend got him to
tell the story to Pemex. In
1971 he presented himself to
the Superintendent of
Exploitation in
Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.
The company's technicians confirmed the
presence of oil in the sea at the
site indicated by Rudesindo (about 70km
north of Ciudad del
Carmen). Its reward was that the deposit
bear its last name.
Conclusions:
In conclusion Cantarell since its inception has been a priority
destination for investments in the oil industry due to its high
profitability due to its low operating costs and the wide
availability of oil and natural gas reserves. However, its
operations have been subject to governmental and corporate
decisions that have influenced its optimal exploitation.
Oil production at Cantarell will continue for at least the next two
decades, extending its decline process, which could be
attenuated with the use of technology aimed at expanding the
geological knowledge of the fields and their characterization.
