Chapter 6: ANSYS Structural Products
6.1. Mechanical
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

6.2. Mechanical APDL

Specific to Windows, within the ansys.lrf file, the use of ANSCUST.BAT to create a custom executable
generates an excessive number of warning messages about missing .pdb files for each function/subroutine
in Mechanical APDL. The messages should be disregarded. Work-around: To prevent the excessive
number of warning messages from appearing, locate the "ansys.lrf" file in the "custom\user\winx64"
subdirectory of the ANSYS installation directory, then remove the single line "-debug" with any text
editor prior to using ANSCUST.BAT. (132428)

6.3. Autodyn
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

6.4. Aqwa
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

6.5. ANSYS Composite PrepPost (ACP)

Chapter 7: ANSYS Fluids Products
7.1. Fluent
Starting in version 16.0, multiphase cases using the Non-Iterative Time Advancement (NITA) scheme
may have accuracy and/or divergence issues. (123606)

Parallel simulations with an adapted mesh and local cell remeshing enabled may experience a perform-
ance slowdown during the mesh update. Work-around: Disable the local remeshing of the exterior by
using the following Scheme command: (rpsetvar 'dynamesh/remesh/remesh-exterior? #f ). (130240)

When using the Solar Load model in parallel, velocity and pressure inlets will automatically be included
in the solar flux calculation, even if you manually disable these boundaries from participating in radiation
(although this is generally not recommended). This behavior began with the introduction of the Solar
Load model, and may lead to unexpected results. (129936)

Starting in Fluent version 17.0, for a shell conduction wall, parameterized variables in Workbench may
not update in Fluent for each new solution. Work-around: Enter the following Scheme command in
the Fluent console after changing the parameter value in the Parameter Set tab in Workbench: (update-
mls-data). (123938)

Fluent may terminate abnormally or skip writing the Mach number variable when exporting to I-deas
Universal format. Work-around: Define a custom field function with mach-number as the Definition
(by selecting Velocity... and Mach Number from the Field Functions drop-down menus) and select that
field function for export. (129982)

If you enabled Report Plot when creating a report definition, renaming this report definition before it-
erating may cause an error. Work-around: Provide the desired name when creating the report definition
or run for at least one iteration before renaming. (131685)

For two-way coupling between Maxwell and Fluent, by default Fluent now uses the same list of zones
that you selected for receiving volumetric losses in Fluent's EM Mapping dialog box. To change the
zones that are used for feedback mapping, you can use a Scheme command, shown in the following
example. This example specifies that only cell zone ID 1 and 2 are used: (em-set-feedback-map-cell-zone
'( 1 2)). Note that you can only specify the IDs of the cell zones as the arguments. (132174)

Fluent reports compiling errors for the DEFINE_RELAX_TO_EQUILIBRIUM UDF. Work-around:

To use DEFINE_RELAX_TO_EQUILIBRIUM as an interpreted UDF hook, add the line

#define EXTERN_C
before the line
#include "udf.h"

To use DEFINE_RELAX_TO_EQUILIBRIUM as a compiled UDF, in addition to the above code

modification, perform the following steps:

1. Build the UDF.

Release 17.2 - SAS IP, Inc. All rights reserved. - Contains proprietary and confidential information
of ANSYS, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates. 13
ANSYS Fluids Products

Fluent displays an error message.

2. In the / libudf/lnamd64/XX (Linux) or \libudf\win64\XX (Windows) directory, where

XX is the solver-specific directory name, edit the automatically generated file called udf_names.c
by adding the line

#define EXTERN_C
before the line
#include "udf.h"

3. Rebuild the UDF.

Once you save the case file, you will not need to repeat these steps each time the saved case is
read into a new Fluent session. (132482)

Opening the ACT Console from the ACT Start Page in a Fluent session on Windows may result in a
Segmentation Violation and abnormal termination of the Fluent session. Work-around: Avoid opening
the ACT Console within Fluent. (132129)

When exiting a Fluent session on Linux that has been started with the Load ACT option, Fluent may
hang and become unresponsive when exiting. If this occurs, the Fluent process must be manually killed.
(132084)

When Fluent is run on Linux with the Load ACT option, Fluent may repeatedly issue the following
Warning during solution iteration: "Unexpected error checking licensing server." This warning is harmless
and does not impact Fluent or ACT usage. (132585)

The ACT Start Page fails to open when running Fluent in mixed Windows-Linux mode. There is no known
workaround. (132633)

7.2. CFX
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

7.3. TurboGrid
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

7.4. BladeModeler
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

7.5. CFD-Post
Live monitoring in CFD-Post does not work if the Monitor Location Data Retention option is set to Delete
Old Files (default for steady state runs). In this scenario, live monitoring will work only if you enable
beta features in CFD-Post. (132315)

7.6. Polyflow
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

Chapter 8: ANSYS Electronics Products
8.1. Icepak
Full restart does not work if there is a boundary type change in a restarted run. (126239)

Surface probe on a 3D surface contour does not work correctly. A probe point, if placed at a 3D surface,
returns a value at a point projected to its 2D plane that may not correspond to the color coded value.
(127295)

When running a solution and an interruption to the license server occurs, the solution is interrupted.
(127658)

Changing units for a variable under Edit > Preferences does not apply these changes to objects in the
Inactive folder. (132233)

On the Windows platform, when constructing a Krylov ROM using Order 3, Icepak does not finish the
ROM construction process as expected. (132515)

Chapter 9: ANSYS Geometry & Mesh Prep Products
9.1. CAD Connections & Integration
On Linux platforms, import of geometry files from NX that contain material properties may fail. (128505)

9.2. DesignModeler
On some SLES 12.1 and RedHat 7.1 systems, DesignModeler will fail to shutdown when Workbench is
closed due to a graphics library error. As a workaround, users may direct Workbench to use an older,
but more compatible graphics library by running the following command prior to launching Workbench:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/ansys_inc/v172/Framework/bin/Linux64/Mesa

This command will instruct Workbench to use the Mesa graphics library in its install folder. (128196)

9.3. SpaceClaim
When SpaceClaim Direct Modeler is closed by Workbench and its script editor is open with an unsaved
script, then in some cases it may generate an exception during shutdown. This only occurs in cases
where SpaceClaim is not to save any data during closing, so there is no risk of data loss. (129195)

There are missing context sensitive Help links for some tools in Non-English Help. Access the missing
Help links via SpaceClaim Options> Advanced> Language to change the default language to English.
(132200)

On Windows 10 operating systems, there may be an issue with Traditional Chinese status message fonts
not displaying properly. (132200)

A bug in .NET 4.6 may cause errors when using the Skin Surface tool in ANSYS SCDM. Work-around: If
you are running .NET 4.6, you should make sure that you have the latest version, which is .NET 4.6.1.
This is contained in Microsoft update KB3102438. (132200)

Measurement Groups do not immediately update with changes to Driving Dimension Groups. (TFS42637)

9.4. Meshing
Assembly meshing does not support local size functions. (131370)

When multibody parts or multiple parts contain match controls and are meshed with MultiZone, the
match controls may fail without generating any errors or warnings. If a matched mesh is critical, you
must inspect the model in such cases to ensure the proper matching is done. (132198)

Within ANSYS Workbench Meshing, the use of the Assembly Meshing Method (Cutcell or Tetrahedrons)
requires ANSYS Fluent to be installed. (132209)

When you are using the Meshing application on the Linux platform and you click the Worksheet button
on the toolbar after selecting an object in the Tree Outline, a Script Error message may appear and the

ANSYS Geometry & Mesh Prep Products

Worksheet associated with the selected object will not launch. This behavior does not occur in the
Mechanical application. Work-around: Click OK to dismiss the Script Error message. Then, in the following
order, click the Geometry object in the Tree Outline, the Worksheet button on the toolbar, the desired
object in the Tree Outline, and the Worksheet button on the toolbar. (132410)

9.5. IC Engine
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

9.6. ICEM CFD

No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

9.7. Fluent Meshing

Hexcore cavity remeshing may create incorrect connections from the cavity mesh to the original mesh,
resulting in mesh check failure and an error when switching to solution mode. (131647)

Release 17.2 - SAS IP, Inc. All rights reserved. - Contains proprietary and confidential information
20 of ANSYS, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
Chapter 10: ANSYS Simulation Products
10.1. Workbench
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

10.2. ANSYS ACT

See the Fluent (p. 13) section of this document for ANSYS ACT-related issues specific to Fluent .

10.3. Remote Solve Manager (RSM)

No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

10.4. EKM
When saving a Workbench project or sending project changes to an EKM repository in which data ex-
traction is disabled, the progress bar in Workbench does not move to the completed state, even though
the transfer completes successfully. (123831)

If a file is placed under version control when it is uploaded to an EKM repository from Workbench,
version control will not work if data extraction is disabled in the target EKM workspace. To work around
this issue you can sign in to EKM and put the project under version control there. (131881)

10.5. DesignXplorer
No known issues, limitations, or documentation inaccuracies.

Chapter 11: ANSYS AIM
In a simulation process that transfers data from AIM to a Mechanical system, deleting and recreating
the Geometry task in AIM will cause the Mechanical system to crash. Work-around: If you have used
Data Import, instead of deleting the Geometry task, replace the geometry. If you have used a Geometry
Modeling Task, instead of the doing a Refresh and Update, start the Mechanical Editor and then Update
the Model cell. (126843)

Forcing a hard stop in a multi-step analysis may sometimes crash AIM if the solver is in the middle of
writing a substep-based result at the time of hard stop. (131254)

When using the FSI template, the chart for calculated value monitor will show as Attention required
due to an invalid or undefined method. This behavior is noted for both a fluid to structural (FSI) or a
CHT-solid temperature to structural (CHT-FSI) simulation. Work-around: Delete the physics coupling
interface from the structural physics then redefine the monitor chart and re-connect the fluid and
structural physics. (131261)

When duplicating a Results task with a Calculated Value Result using Function calculator method, if the
result's Location references a SelectionSet object, the duplicated Calculated Value Result in the duplicated
Results task will have an expression which references the original task's SelectionSet. To correct this
after duplicating the Results task, first switch the Location of the duplicated Calculated Value Result to
something else, then switch it back to the duplicated SelectionSet. (131454)

When using the Design Point Dashboard to add a new design point to an AIM simulation process, up-
dating the design point, closing the dashboard, and clicking the play animation button causes an error.
Work-around: Navigating away from the Results task and back again before clicking the play animation
button prevents the error. (131730)

Plotting a result on a large selection of faces may take a long time for complex cases. Work-around:
Use a boundary condition or geometric plane as the location. (131772)

"Update for task Physics failed" error when updating a "Partially-updated" Physics task for a single sim-
ulation step analysis. Work-around: Temporarily modify a load value and then modify it back. The
Physics task should change to 'Out-of-date' and can be updated as normal. (131883)

The calculated values monitor shows incorrect results when using reference frame transformations on
points. Work-around: In the Results task, toggle the input properties on the Calculated Value Results,
ending on the desired value and re-solve the Physics. The monitor will show the correct value reflecting
the reference frame transformation. (131944)

When using the Japanese version of AIM to create a magnetics project, the project may show as having
an invalid setup when the project is opened in the English version. Work-around: Reassign the mater-
ials so they use English names. (132138)

"Process cannot access file...because it's being accessed by another process" error while saving a project.
This error occurs randomly when AIM fails to remove some temporary project files or folders as they
are being accessed by another process. However, the project has already been successfully saved. Work-
around: Close and reopen AIM, then resume the just-saved project. (132225)

of ANSYS, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates. 23
ANSYS AIM

Exceptions may be thrown when running a script that repeatedly evaluates a contour or vector plot for
a structural or polymer extrusion simulation. AIM must be killed through the task manager. Workaround:
modify the script to avoid successive evaluations on a single contour or vector plot. (132228)

When using the Japanese version of AIM, the "Import Geometry" or "Connect to CAD" template creation
methods on the initial Study data panel do not work. Work-around: Create a Data Import task without
using the templates by right-clicking in the Workflow view and selecting Create > Data Import. The
import tasks provides the option to import a geometry or connect to an active CAD. It is also possible
to use other templates (Structural, Fluid Flow, Thermal, etc.) that are not affected by the limitation de-
scribed. (132405)
