Almighty Spirit, our divine Father, our divine Mother, we feel
you alighting on the crowns of our heads, swirling down in your
vortexes of light, touching our hearts, breathing in our lungs. We see
glimpses of your light before us, through the eye of soul. You are the
light of consciousness inhabiting all. You have fashioned each one of
us so uniquely.
I see your miracles everywhere in the beauty of this creation.
What a wonder it is to be alive in these bodies, to be able to
meditate, to pray, to sing. What a wonderful energy is produced in
a gathering of souls, when the little self in each one joins you, the
Great Self that created all of us. Like a bouquet, we offer this to you,
O God. Heal our minds and our bodies. Bless us with your presence.
Let us feel you descend through the crown of our heads. Let us see
the light of your Cosmic Sun shining in inner space.
O Lord, you are the great Comforter. You mothered us when we
were babes, and you have taught us as weve grown. We turn to you
now, and seek you in those days of life we have before us. We wish
to know and serve you. Reveal your presence to us more and
more each day. In our prayers and meditations, all through our
days, and when we wake in the darkness of the night, remind
us of your presence.
We know you created each one of us, and you are here now as
much as you ever will be. We need to discover you, to meet you, to
feel that great love in our hearts, see that great light, your Cosmic
Sun seen only by the eye of soul.
Divine One, when we pray to you in our meditations, if we listen
deeply, we can hear our voices in inner space; we have a voice in
heaven! You listen to our prayers and answer us with a voice we can
hear. In the great hall of the upper chamber within, we meet you.
You are the light of soul existing in and around each thought. You
know we are searching for you. You know our desires; you know
our restlessness; you know our love. As we sit to meditate, you
acknowledge this.
Almighty Spirit, our beloved Father and Mother, you are
watching and waiting for us to give you our love and attention.
You are here, residing within us. We are your children. We love
you, Mighty Spirit.
 Contentment is not just a peaceful, easy feeling, or a way to rationalize laziness.
Its a deep, easy-breathing wisdom that knows what can and cant be changed,
and more important, knows when to do and when to wait.

Active Patience

We find ourselves here on this planet, gifted with bodies
and personalities, moving through the school of life. Some
classes are easy, and others very challenging. Every day tests are
presented, and occasionally we even have midterms,
a time for self-examination. We have the opportunity to
look within and really ask ourselves about the quality of our
consciousness in our day to day actions: How are we doing?
This is when relationships can be very beneficial, because
they give us a reflection. I remember a spiritual teacher saying,
If you want to know how evolved someone is, ask their
spouse or their close friend. Its in close personal relation-
ships that we have the most challenges, and therefore the
most growth.
We all want peace in this world, and naturally we have to
start with ourselves. Pay close attention to those times when
you get your hackles up. How can you make it through those
times without losing your center? Anger can actually be
used as an awareness tool, as long as you dont throw it
outward and blame it on someone else, or even blame
it on yourself. Take the blame away, and simply use it to
become aware of whatever it is that doesnt feel right. Once
you are aware, you now have the ability to do something
constructive about it!
Conscious breath is a wonderful tool you can use to come
back into a calm space. It helps you notice what doesnt feel
good so that you can find a positive solution. You can use
this at any time. Check inside your body and see where
any areas of tension are. Breathe into those areas with
the Light of consciousness.
Impatience can arise when you have a certain fixed idea
that you believe is correct, and someone else has a different
idea. But if you can remember to step back, breathe, and listen
more deeply, there might be something in that other persons
idea that will flesh out and complement yours. This is active
patience.
Pause for a moment and think about the Creator of this
universe who watches over you every microsecond of time.
That pure consciousness is caretaking, sustaining all human
beings, plants, animals, earths, suns and galaxies. It is upholding
the entire universe right now. That energy never stops working,
yet works with utter patience, with utter love.
We may sometimes feel impatient as we seek to evolve
into Cosmic consciousness and oneness with the Divine. We
may feel we are not going fast enough. But how long has the
almighty living Spirit been waiting for us? A saint once said, If
you are seeking God, God is seeking you much more.
In facing tests of patience, remember to keep a thankful
heart. You can be thankful for the smallest of things
for your next breath, for your consciousness, because isnt
this truly miraculous?

Can we imagine
the patience of God,
waiting for lifetimes to be recognized within us?
Waiting, watching and loving through thick and thin,
God is always right herethe Spirit within the soul that quickens
and recognizes oneness revealedancient and inherent,
longstanding and pure. God is always right here.

Can We Hear Mother Earth Sing?

Permaculture is a holistic design science that is reflective of natural
patterns and promotes mutually beneficial relationships rooted in
ethics and principles that guide us to live in a sustainable and equitable
manner. The concepts and themes in permaculture help us rediscover
how to be a positive contributor to the earth, ourselves and humanity.

A few months ago, some of my Sunburst friends and I took a Permaculture
Design Course to better understand how the principles of natural patterns
might apply to our lives. I have often felt that when studying nature, one
can understand many things about becoming good stewards of the land. It
has been an eye opener for me to realize that the foundational concepts of
permaculture like Care of the Earth, Care of the People and Fair Share can easily
be applied to efforts of becoming more in tune with the natural and spiritual
laws. Concepts, like understanding water flow and reading the environment
around you, go hand in hand with understanding Spirits play in all we see.
How can we step lightly and heal our relationship with the earth
without conscious communication with Spirit? We must be open
conduits for Spirit.
My own journey into permaculture is motivated by the hope of better
understanding the interdependence between our natural environment and
our souls connection with Spirit. The success of our connection can
be measured by the health of the environments we caretake. Applying
permaculture at Sunburst Sanctuary gives us a framework for understanding
how to interact well with nature in this place, as it can for anyone, wherever
they find themselves.
Sunburst has invited internationally known teacher and designer Warren
Brush to guide us in applying permaculture at the Sanctuary. We hope to
design a plan for land stewardship that will be multifaceted, including such
aspects as retaining rainwater in our soils, mitigating erosion, bringing the land
into greater productivity, and more. It is my hope that these efforts will increase
our inner connections with Spirit, the communication we have with our
environment through our hearts, build cooperation among like-minded souls,
and offer opportunities for selfless service.
God help us to live slowly,
to move simply, to look softly,
to allow emptiness,
to let the heart create for us.

Rewards of Patience

When tilling ground for the cultivation of crops one needs patience to
destroy all useless weeds; and to wait, even though the ground appears
barren, until the hidden good seeds sprout into plants. It requires still more
patience to clear the field of consciousness that is overgrown with weeds
of useless attachments to sense pleasures, which are difficult to uproot.
Yet when the field of consciousness is cleared, and sown with seeds
of good qualities, plants of noble activities sprout forth, yielding
abundantly the fruits of real happiness.
Above all, have the patience to seek communion with God through
deep meditation and to become acquainted with your indestructible soul,
hidden within your perishable earthly body.
