Ubiquitous Internet connectivity: The time is not far when you are out of home and your computers at
home contact you to let you know that your medicines have expired. A deluge of data has significantly
added to the challenges of making decisions and achieving desired business outcomes. The Internet of
Things is the linking of physical devices onto a network thereby creating a system where machines
interact with each other is now a proven strategy aimed at delivering significant business benefits valued
at trillions of dollars in the coming decades. In the wake of this concept making strong waves worldwide,
The Operations Committee of XIMB, X-Ops conducted its annual business conclave ASHWAMEDH17
with the theme: Use of IoT for operational efficiency.

The colloquium had noted eminent speakers from the industries gracing the event. Mr. Swarup Mandal
(Practice Head, Wipro Technologies), Mr. Ashutosh Mayank (Vice President-Lumis Partners), Mr.
Venkatesh Subramanya (Associate Parnter, Infosys Consulting Inc), Ms. Farhana Haque (Vice President -
IoT Vodafone India) and Mr. Sangeet Kumar (Co-Founder, Addverb). Professor Arun Kumar Paul, faculty
in the Operations Management area in XIMB, was the moderator for the event. Prof. Paul initiated the
platform for the guest speakers to divulge their deep insights on the topic.

The speakers made the students aware about the various nuances of IoT, how organisations should focus
on driving considerable cost savings with the use of IoT. Asset utilization, process efficiency and
productivity are the key areas where the IoTs potential should be used. Their lectures was laden with
examples from the real world where IoT had been implemented and invited students to draw inferences
and key takeaways from those projects. The speakers also had to tell about how IoT could prove to be a
frontier talking from an Indian perspective, given the Smart Cities & Digital India Programe. Some key
challenges pertaining to the IoT were also addressed.

The session then concluded with a healthy interaction from an enthusiastic audience who were eager to
get their queries addressed. The speakers lauded the students for their hunger to learn and
inquisitiveness. The conclave resonated the great legacy of XIMBs continued and formidable association
with the corporate world.
