Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial Standard
revised by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, through deliberations at
the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee as the result of proposal of revision
of Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by The Japan Iron and Steel Federation
(JISF) with the draft being attached, based on the provision of Article 12 Clause 1
of the Industrial Standardization Law applicable to the case of revision by the provision
of Article 14.
Consequently JIS G 0321: 2005 has been replaced with this Standard.
This JIS document is protected by the Copyright Law.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict
with a patent right, application for a patent after opening to the public, utility model
right or application for registration of utility model after opening to the public which
have technical properties. The relevant Minister and the Japanese Industrial Standards
Committee are not responsible for identifying the patent right, application for a patent
after opening to the public, utility model right or application for registration of utility
model after opening to the public which have the said technical properties.

1 Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the product analysis and its tolerance
for the killed steel products of rolled or forged carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel
and heat resisting steel (hereafter referred to as "wrought steel").
In addition, the application of this Standard shall be as stated in the individual prod-
uct standards.
2 Norma ti ve references
The standards listed in table 1 contain provisions which, through reference in this
text, constitute provisions of this Standard. The most recent editions of the standards
(including amendments) indicated in the table shall be applied.

solidified.
Note 1) Where it is not feasible to obtain the analytical sample from the molten
steel, such as in vacuum arc remelting method (VAR), electro-slag remelt-
ing method (ESR), or other method, the analysis is carried out on ana-
lytical samples taken from steel ingot, steel slab, or steel material, and
the results are applied to the heat analysis.
NOTE: For example, when the upper limit value of heat analysis of carbon (C)
specified in a standard of wrought steel is 0.25 %, and the tolerance for
product analysis on the plus side designated in a standard of wrought
steel in accordance with this Standard is +0.03 %, the permissible upper
limit value of product analysis is 0.28 %.

4.1 Method of sampling for analysis
The method of sampling for analysis shall be as follows:
a) The analytical sample for product analysis shall be taken from a position repre-
senting the average chemical composition of the cross-section of the original steel
billet.
If the method of sampling is not specified in the product standard or in the re-
quirements given in the order of the product, the analytical sample may be directly
taken from the specimens or test pieces for the mechanical test, or a sample product.
b) The analytical sample shall be free from scales, rust, paint, plating metal, decar-
burized layer and impurities. Further, the analytical sample shall not be used if
oxidized, rusted or soiled during storage.
When the sample is taken from chips produced in machining, the sampling pro-
cedure shall be in accordance with 4.4 of JIS G 0417.
c) When the analytical sample is to be taken directly from a sample product, the
procedure in clause 10 of JIS G 0417 shall be applied. However, if this is imprac-
ticable, analytical samples shall be taken by a suitable method referring to 4.1 a)
and 4.1 b). In this case, the sampling method shall be subjected to the agreement
between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
d) When the analytical samples for the emission spectrometric analysis and fluores-
cent X-ray analysis of the product analysis are to be directly taken from a sample
product, the samples which comply with JIS G 1253 and JIS G 1256 shall be taken
in accordance with clause 10 of JIS G 0417. However, when the sample for in-
strumental analysis can not be taken in accordance with 4.1 a), the analysis shall
not be carried out.
5 Analysis method
c) For the tolerance of one kind of wrought steel, all or a part of the tolerances in
one table shall be applied, and tolerances in 2 or more tables shall not be used in
mixture.
