more presidential debates
plus a vice presidential de-
bate and only about five weeks be-
fore a new president is elected. We say
that not necessarily because we cant
wait for either of these candidates to
enter office, but because we, like many
others, are simply sick of listening to
them campaign.
Whether you are for Democrat
Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald
Trump, you can agree that the cam-
paign for this presidency, which still
has more than a month left, has been
ugly.

business running day in and day out. You
barely have time to think about marketing,
but you know you need to. Whats a great
way to get the most out of marketing ef-
forts?
Since most customers prefer to get infor-
mation about a company from content
marketing rather than advertising, its
worth putting money and/or time behind
creating this content.
But a strategy is useless if you create it,
then ignore it.
Forty-four percent of B2B marketers re-
port meeting daily or weekly to review the
effectiveness of their content marketing ef-
forts. Almost half of B2C marketers do the
same, according to the Content Marketing
Institute.

see. The first presidential debate last

Budgeting for content marketing
CMI reports also revealed that mar-
keters allocate between 28-32 percent of
their total marketing budgets to content
marketing. If this investment seems low,
remember that generating content market-
ing material takes time you may be sur-
prised at how long it takes you or your
team to create engaging marketing con-
tent!
More than 50 percent of content mar-
keters say creating visual content is a pri-
ority this year, so if you dont have a Photo-
shop or Illustrator whiz on staff, it might
be time to outsource some of your content
creation needs.
Social media choices
Seventy percent of small businesses use

that campaigning for the top office of
our country has turned into a com-
plete circus.

Clintons that we like. There are some
from Trump that we like as well. But
what we dont like from either candi-

Its a shame that our presidential
elections have turned into this, but its
something we will have to live with for
another five weeks. Thankfully, Nov. 8
is not that far off.
Facebook as part of their content market-
ing strategies, but dont feel discouraged if
you prefer another network. Twitter,
LinkedIn and Instagram are all popular,
along with video-hosting services such as
YouTube and Vimeo.
The social media component of your
content marketing plan also should be
strong. Forty-five percent of those sur-
veyed by Wasp Barcode Technologies re-
ported using social media marketing to
promote specific products or services.
Thirty-eight percent said they share infor-
mation about sales and discounts, and the
same percentage reported using it to gain
likes and fans.
What about visual content versus the
written word? Buzzsumo notes that Face-
book posts with images get 2.3 times more
engagement than those without. Blogs are

Across the board, realtors
agree that Staten Island is the
best place for people to invest in a
home, condominium or co-op.
My belief is that the Staten Is-
land real estate market should see
steady growth over the next 12
months marking the third con-
secutive annual growth period in
as many years. Several factors
contribute to this trend:
Interest rates remain at an all-
time low, offering buyers attrac-
tive terms and enticing many to
enter the market to take advan-
tage of these rates while they last.
Inventory is low. Its simple
supply and demand a lack of
product results in higher prices.
Lastly, we must take a look at
how investors view the invest-
ment chessboard. The United
States is still seen as one of the
safest places to park money in
real estate. As we continue to see
shaky markets in Europe and
Asia- we will continue to see an
influx of foreign investment
money in the real estate market.
If you take a look at the stock
market, many feel we are on the
verge of a bubble considering the
historic highs, so they consider
real estate as a safe, long-term
play.
Staten Island has always been
the bedroom community to New
York City, with ownership oppor-

tunity far outpacing rentals.
However, with the completion of

Real Estate Summit a
success on Sept. 15
Realtors and other business
people seeking stronger ties to in-
ternational commerce were
drawn to the 10th Annual Global
Real Estate Summit & Expo, held
Sept. 15 in Brooklyn.
Co-hosted by the Staten Island
Board of Realtors and the Brook-
lyn Real Estate Board, this years
gathering attracted hundreds of
attendees to the Dyker Beach Golf
Course, where the summit was
held in a borough other than Stat-
en Island for the first time in its
10-year history.
"This event is important not
just for Staten Island but for all
the boroughs, said Ron Molcho,
a SIBOR director and chairman
of the Global Real Estate Summit,
during an interview with Spec-

Relocating the summit to a new
venue across the Verrazano-Nar-
rows Bridge was a logical next
step in its growth as a prominent

The SIEDC plans to proceed
with work to secure funding for
the feasibility study of the proj-
ect, which is expected to cost
more than $60 million.
According to the SIEDC, the
proposed route would connect
commuters to the Hudson-Bergen
Light Rail system in New Jersey.
The trip across the water would
take approximately six minutes,
with a gondola leaving every
minute, and would cut the trip
from Elm Park to the World Trade
Center PATH train to 33 minutes.
Aerial cableways and specifi-
cally gondola systems are quickly
becoming a popular method of
urban transportation across the
globe, according to SIEDC offi-
cials.
These cost effective, environ-
mentally sustainable and excep-
tionally reliable projects have
been implemented most famously
in Medellin, Colombia, Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, La Paz, Bolivia,
Mrida, Venezuela, Madeira, Por-
tugal, London, England, and
across southeast Asia.
The success that these sys-
tems have had in connecting sub-
urbs with central business dis-
tricts has led to a significant in-
terest in the technology from
American cities. Municipalities
including Tampa, Austin, Chica-
go, St. Louis and Washington,
D.C., all have serious proposals in
the works for aerial cableways.
New York is no exception, with a
proposal to connect Brooklyn and
Manhattan that was introduced a
few years ago, and now Staten Is-
land.
The SIEDC has been pushing
for innovative transportation
projects on Staten Island for more
than 10 years. After championing
the West Shore Light Rail, it
began to look for other creative
options to solve the boroughs
transportation issues.
Staten Island residents en-
dure some of the longest public
transit commute times in the na-
tion, and new options are need-
ed, officials said.
A full public presentation for
the gondola plan is expected to
take place next spring.

Linda Baran celebrates 30 years at Chamber
Linda Baran is celebrating her
30th anniversary at the Staten Is-
land Chamber of Commerce, in-
cluding the past 12 years as the
Chambers first woman president
and chief executive officer.
I cant believe it has been 30
years! Baran said, laughing, at a
surprise luncheon thrown by her
staff on Sept. 8. When I look
back, the time really has flown.
But I think, for me, a real meas-
ure of my life at the Chamber is
when I think about all the people I
have met. Thousands!
It is incredible what the busi-
ness community has gone
through here September 11th,
the 2008 recession, Hurricane
Sandy and even the tremendous
population growth the Island has
experienced, she said reflective-
ly. At every step of the way, our
members have been a rock for the
community, and I have made so
many great friends along the
way.
As for the future, My passion
now is the future of Staten Is-
lands workforce, Baran said.
We have to support our kids, pro-
vide them with real, meaningful
training and get them work. This
will keep them safe and help our
business community stay
strong.
Three years ago, Baran
launched the Chamber's Young
Entrepreneurs Academy to en-
sure the success of the next gen-
eration of business leaders.
Going forward, Baran sees the
Chamber taking a more active
role in the area of workforce de-
velopment.
In May 2004, Baran was elected
by the Chambers Board of Direc-
tors as the first woman president
and CEO of the organization,
which was established in 1895.
Prior to that, she served as the in-
terim president for seven months
and held the position of vice pres-
ident of finance and resources.
Baran has worked in many areas
of the Chamber, including fi-
nance and operations, member-
ship development, community re-
lations, special events as well as
government and legislative af-
fairs. She serves on the board of
the Chamber Alliance of New
York State and plays an active
role in the Five Borough Cham-
ber of Commerce Coalition.
Outside of the Chamber, Baran
serves on the board of Notre
Dame Academy, and is an adviso-
ry board member for the Small
Business Development Center at
the College of Staten Island. She
is a past president of the Staten
Island Rotary Club.
Baran has served on Gov.
Cuomos Community Rising
Planning Committee. She worked
tirelessly in the aftermath of
Hurricane Sandy to provide re-
sources and information to affect-
ed Staten Island businesses, and
continues to advocate on behalf
of Sandy recovery and relief.
