Corrective maintenance activity

Corrective maintenance principles
The network maintenance is based on the supervision of the network, by using the OAM
graphical interface. For more information, see Alcatel-Lucent 9353 Wireless Management
System - User Guide, NN-20500-032.
It is also based on the identification and replacement of faulty items of equipment, using
the alarms.
The process is divided into the following two steps:
Locating and identifying the faulty items of equipment, by using the information
provided in Alcatel-Lucent 9353 Wireless Management System - Node B Alarms
Reference Guide for 9311, 9312, 9322, 9326, 9332 Node B, NN-20500-018P1.
Replacing the faulty items of equipment, by using the replacement procedures given
in this document.

9332 radio Compact Node B description

Layout
The 9332 radio Compact Node B is a radio device designed to be connected to a digital
control device via optical fiber links. This digital control device is one of the following
two products:
9322 dCompact
9326 d2U
The 9332 radio Compact Node B operates in the UMTS FDD band I (2100/1900 MHz
band).
The 9332 radio Compact Node B , combined with the 9322 dCompact or the 9326 d2U,
offers Macro Node B capabilities in a compact Node B packaging. It constitutes an
alternative Macro Node B solution.
The Alcatel-Lucent Remote Radio solution improves flexibility for deploying mobile
broadband base stations in space-constrained locations. It is particularly suited to
macro-cellular application in dense areas, where site acquisition is difficult, and on sites
where installation constraints prevent the use of traditional macro base stations.
The Remote Radio solution provides for the UMTS system:
The means of communication between a User Equipment (UE) and a network using
Transport Channels
Physical layer channels, which are necessary to synchronize the downlink and
perform cell selection/reselection and handover preparation
Measurement information to the RNC for radio resource management (handover,
power control)
The Alcatel-Lucent Remote Radio solution delivers high UMTS radio performances and
supports the enhanced High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed
Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) solutions through easy software upgrade.

NOTICE
Service-disruption hazard
If there is only one xTRM module in the xTRM/PA/GPxOIM shelf, the service is lost.
If there is a second operational xTRM module in the xTRM/PA/GPxOIM shelf (case of
xTRM redundancy or STSR3 configuration), the service is reduced.

Important! Precautions to be observed when plugging/unplugging xTRM Rx

connector
The xTRM Rx connector (coaxipack) is very sensitive in Node B design, contributing
to the global reception quality. It has therefore to be treated with care when removed
or replaced for maintenance purpose.
Ensure at any time its correct alignment with guides, the lock system being placed on
the left.
Ensure the lock system operates properly.
Do not apply force when inserting it.
Ensure a perfect straight angle with the xTRM front panel.
If tie-raps are applied to secure the cable within the cabinet, ensure they are not
putting any constraint to that connector.

Procedure
Carry out the following procedure to replace the xTRM.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Open the door.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Locate the faulty xTRM in the xTRM/PA/GPxOIM shelf: its red triangular LED is ON.

Replacing the miscellaneous equipment
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Open the door.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Undo the ground wire.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

3 Remove the door.

It is possible to change the door gaskets without removing the door (not recommended).
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

4 Removal of the door gaskets:

Remove each old gasket from the aluminium surface.
Clean the surface as follows:
Use rubber gloves (talcum free).
Use a lint free cloth applicator moistened with solvents to wash the aluminium
surface until the pressure sensitive adhesive is removed.
Continue cleaning until all the traces of the pressure sensitive adhesive and the
film residue are removed.
Let the surface dry for five minutes at ambient temperature.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

5 Reinsertion of the new door gaskets:

Position the door gaskets by positioning the four corners of the joint as needed.
Avoid repositioning, since it will hamper the effectiveness of the adhesive and may
bend or kink the strip.
Position the first horizontal door gasket with care.
Position the first vertical door gasket with care.
Remove the release liner three to four inches at a time.
Put the gaskets in place by pressing firmly on the surface.
Redo the same operation for the two other gaskets.
Test for the position of the door gaskets (there are four gaskets: three gaskets are
situated in the alignment of the second skin).
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

6 Inspect visually if any unbounded areas of the gaskets remain.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

7 Reinsert the door.

8 Put the ground wire back in place.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

9 Close the door and check visually if the gasket compression is correct everywhere.
Test for an adequate compression:
Place a sheet of paper with half inside and half outside the cabinet at the top of the
door.
Close the door while holding this sheet of paper in place.
Lock the door (with the key).
Pull the sheet of paper and try to remove it from the cabinet.
The door gasket compression is adequate if the sheet stays in place.

European regulatory requirement compliance

Radio and Telecom Terminal Equipment directive
As a radio product, the 9332 rCompact OD falls under the requirement of the Radio and
Telecom Terminal Equipment (RTTE) European directive 1999/5/EEC.
The RTTE directive covers requirements in the following areas:
Protection of the Health and Safety of users and all other persons, including objectives
with respect to safety requirements contained in the Low Voltage directive
(2006/95/CE).)
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) protection requirements contained in Directive
89/336/EEC.
The equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed
and used in accordance with the instruction manual, the equipment may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by
turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference.
The EMC requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of
compatibility for apparatus at residential, commercial, and light industrial
environments. The levels however, do not cover extreme cases which may occur in
any location but with a low probability of occurrence. In particular, it may not cover
those cases where a potential source of interference which is producing individually
repeated transient phenomena, or continuous phenomena, is permanently present, for
example a radar or broadcast site in the near vicinity. In such a case it may be
necessary to either limit the source of interference, or use special protection applied,
to the interfered part, or both.
Note: For operation or maintenance inside Alcatel-Lucent systems, the operator must
always wear the antistatic wrist strap to maintain the integrity of the product.
Effective use of the Radio spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communication
and orbital resources to avoid interference. The routes and standards used to
demonstrate compliance with these requirements are outlined in the following
paragraphs:
Node B EMC
Compliance with essential EMC requirements was demonstrated using E301489-1
& -23.
Node B radio compliance
Compliance with the requirements of effective use of the radio spectrum was

European Union Environmental Directives (EUED)

The 9332 rCompact OD is manufactured according to the following two European Union
Environmental Directives:
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), 2002/95/EC.
The RoHS directive restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, poly-brominated biphenyls (PBB) and poly-brominated diphenyl ethers
(PBDE) in electrical and electronic products. This directive applies to all electrical
and electronic products placed on the European Union (EU) and European Economic
Area (EEA) markets after July 1, 2006, with certain exemptions, including an
exemption for lead solder in network infrastructure equipment.
Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), 2002/96/EC.
The WEEE directive mandates the necessary treatment of such equipment when it
enters end-of-life. It specifically identifies requirements for recycling, reuse, and
disposal.
Note: Compliances for other regions/countries
It is impossible to list all the applicable approvals/compliances as they depend on the
markets and products concerned.
