Introduction
The civil aviation industry is passing through tumultuous times with the bottom-lines under incessant
threats from rising oil prices or geo-political disturbances. Air Transport Operators have to constantly
battle threats through rationalizing of routes, maximizing yield, and the bigger challenge of reduction
and tight control over direct operating costs. All this demands efficient processes, able management
and an agile Information System to arm the decision makers with accurate, reliable and near real-time
information and data.
ARMS is a current-generation, state-of-the-art Information Technology System which effectively
addresses the extremely critical and cost sensitive nature of Commercial Airlines/ Air Transport
operations. It is a unique combination of (a) an Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) (b) Decision
Support System (DSS) (c) Workflow Automation Solution (WFA) (d) Executive Management Information
System (EMIS) (e) Integrated Document Management System (IDMS) viz., InfoPrompt.
These cutting-edge information technologies are seamlessly interwoven to provide the civil aviation
industry with a cost-effective integrated solution, which is modular, scalable & highly user-
customizable. ARMS is an established, robust and well-proven system.
The primary scope of ARMS is effective management of processes and resources required for safe &
efficient operations and maintenance of aircraft, while aiming for overall reduction in direct operating
costs. This is achieved through:
Efficient and meticulous planning of all resources
Optimized scheduling of all resources, viz. crew & aircraft, equipment and other assets.
High degree of workflow automation to ensure unfailing adherence to key process areas.
Availability of real-time data to ensure operational efficiency and consistent on-time performance.
Effective and optimum disruption management based on real-time information/ data.
Proactive safety practices to avert harm, damage and loss.
Strict quality management to ensure statutory compliance, airworthiness and reliability.
Detailed and thorough analysis of performance data to improve planning and efficiency.
Tight monitoring of direct operating costs, especially towards fuel, crew and maintenance.
Strict statutory compliance and optimum decision support, through a near real-time EMIS.
FCT incorporates the following active warnings to ensure Dispatch reliability & safety:
Aerodrome curfew/ watch hour warnings
Weather warnings or below minima Met conditions
MEL Invoked with Ops penalty
Maintenance remarks, AOGs, etc.
A Duty Logger utility is provided for exchanging messages and briefing points between the Flight
Ops Department staff:
Users can log events and occurrences as they occur for future reference and reminders.
Groups of users can be defined and the users in a Group can see all messages created in that
group in chronological order.
The Duty Logger can be used as a Register for handing/ taking over notes to be exchanged
between OCC staff changing shifts.
Users can add action points to attract attention, which could be time-based action points and
reminders.
TAIL ASSIGNMENT OPTIMIZER (TAO)
Tail Assignment Optimizer (TAO) automatically generates the optimum Tail Assignments for a
period taking into consideration the Planned Maintenance activities and other predefined
operational and maintenance constraints defined by the user. NOTE; this function is available only
if ARMS EMSS and FPDS are deployed as an integrated system.
TAO assigns tail numbers to the commercial schedule thus effectively outputting an Aircraft
Schedule while ensuring the following:
Aircraft type/ variant and cabin class configurations are as per the CRS inputs.
Compliance with operational restrictions due to MEL/ CDL.
All other operational constraints and requirements (e.g., ETOPS, RVSM, CAT-III, etc.,) are taken
into considerations.
Takes into consideration the assigned flying hour quotas assigned by Engineering Planning
Department to control the maintenance staggering for heavy MRO activities.
The aircraft is routed back to a Maintenance Base and made available as per the requirements
of the Planned Maintenance Schedule with adequate buffer for sector delays.
TAO is a current generation Optimizer Solver based on Operations Research technologies, which
addresses the complexity of assigning the best suited tail number to a flight. The TAO operates on
the Cloud; equating to a cost-effective solution which can also be made available on a SAAS (pay-
per-use) model. Therefore, investment in high-end Servers and super-computing power normally
associated with traditional Solvers are not required, as no local computing is done.
NOTIFICATIONS MODULE
Interactive SMS Module is a standalone optional module which is accessed by passengers or other
people to access flight information and status using a cellular phone through standard texting
services.
The inquirer keys-in the Date and Flight Number and sends it to the iSMS service number. In return
the system sends out flight information/ status in a test message.
This system too is updated by data/ information generated by the Flight Status Module. This
module requires SMS Center services provided by local Cellular/ Telecom vendors.
Can automatically pick-up actual pax, baggage and cargo data from DCS through Web Service
or 3rd party system integration.
Generates ETOPS Flight Plan for the worst of the following condition: (a) Single Engine Failure,
(b) Pressurization Failure and (c) Combination of both.
View the horizontal altitude profile for a flight with critical weather parameters displayed for
each level of the flight and available flight levels. Provision to manually define Step-Climb/
Descent based on adverse enroute weather/ route restrictions/ ATC requirements. Once the
horizontal altitude profile is changed, the CFP can be re-computed.
Route is displayed on a GIS Map, indicating enroute wind vectors at cruise altitude selected,
ETOPS circles with Critical Points, Restricted Areas and FIR boundaries, Enroute Alternates
(if defined).
Outputs ICAO FPL (ATC Flight Plan) in (a) Plain Text Format for online transmission over AFTN,
SITATEX, FAX or Tele-printers and (b) Filled Flight Plan for submission to ATCs or transmission
by FAX. ICAO FPL is also included in the Trip Kit.
Outputs Repetitive Flight Plans (RPLs) in ICAO Format or export to any data format.
Facility for Captains to ask for Discretionary Fuel. The system captures reasons/ justification for
discretionary fuel and recalculates the Nav Log with the additional fuel demanded.
User-definable Company Fuel Policy to define operational variables, such as, Taxi Fuel, Hold
Fuel, Maneuver Fuel, ATC Contingency & Reserves, APU Fuel, etc. When integrated with the
ARMS FDMA Suite, the system can derive these variables based on actual recorded data and
statistical calculations thereupon.
Include/exclude SID/STAR points in planned route, where applicable.
Lookup RTOW Tables (as provided by OEM/ Operator) based in RW in use, QNH & OAT
variables defined by users.
Caters to generating CFP for non-standard configurations (e.g., Landing Gear Extended, Landing
Gear Doors Open, Flaps/ Airbrakes Extended, PAC unserviceable, etc.), subject to availability of
performance data supplied by aircraft manufacturer.
Computations are based on HARM data provided by the manufacturer and the system also uses and
displays the index method for quick manual re-computing to cater to last minute changes in
load and its distribution. The following parameters are computed (a) Zero Fuel Index and CG (b)
Take-off Index and CG (c) Take-off Stab setting.
There is an option for using two load distributions algorithms (a) center-outwards (b) rear heavy.
The optimization algorithm is applied separately to Passenger and Cargo, leading to four options for
optimization of loading.
Warnings are displayed on screen when; (a) CG limit is outside the permissible envelope
(b) Under load value computed is negative. Printing of the Load & Trim Sheet is prohibited in case
the CG is outside safe CG envelope.
The Output Load and Trim Sheet is generated and printed as per manufacturers or industry
standards formats, for each flight. This is customizable to suit airlines or the statutory bodys
requirements. Load & Trim Sheet can be printed to a local printer or published and sent over email
as a HTML/ PDF file.
Cargo Loading Simulator: A visual training aid to indicate position of CG with limits and zone-wise
warnings, as loading is defined by user.
Pax Load Optimizer: This module can be integrated to work in conjunction with the airlines CRS/
DCS. Based on the booked load, this module suggests optimal seating plan 90 minutes before STD,
so that DCS personnel can assign seats at the counters, to achieve near ideal CG. After the counters
are closed the Pax seat allocation data from DCS is used for preparation of final Load & Trim Sheet.
FPDS DATABASES:
The following aviation databases are maintained and serviced by ARMS Aviation Data Services (ADS)
Team, which are available to all users of ARMS FPDS:
Navigation Database (NavDB). The NavDB comprises the following data/ information:
Enroute Way Points, including VOR/ DMEs/ Nav Aids
SID/ STAR Points
