In this tyoe of coupling, ‘numberof relatively thin steel discs ace mounted in 8 close fiting flywheel counterbore. The diss pro- vide for @ number of important functions a= follows: 1. Pilot and support the front end of the gener 2, Eliminate the need for © generator drive end bearing. ae because of the laminated construction, 4. Permit engine crankshaft end play and some minor longitudinal movement of the rotor. ANGULAR ALIGNMENT Misalignment occurs when the center of the ‘generator rear bearing is offset from the center ‘axis ofthe engine main bearings. f the astembly i allowed to run in this condition, the aises must fiex in alternate directions twice for each re volution. This Is true for both lateral and vertical misalignment and. may be compounded by @ combinetion of both misalignments, {It Is Important to minimize the amount of dise flexing since, if it 1 excessive, the assembly will eventually cold fracture, usually near the shaft hhub. Also, serious flexing of the cise will couse generator vibrations. Perfect bearing alignment, although desirable, is less important than keeping isc deflection to the very minimum posta Her, itis presumed that the pilot bore of the dises isin the exectconter and the flywheel counterbore hhas no practical runout. With these conditions tablished, perfect bearing alignment will exist ‘when zero deflection of the diss Is attained. When checking alignment in the field, measure: ‘ment of disc coupling deflection wll demonstrate if misalignment exists. The magnitude of mi alignment and the direction of displacement of the generator rear bearing may also be determined {rom the deflection measurement. cAPScREW WES Bent ve SPIKE: Furx, cLaMi courting ran | iat INDICATOR SHAFT CHECKING GENERATOR ANGULAR ALIGNMENT ANaWLuvaaa SNOLLVOITENd TWOINHORL eye! pu yeusyuers eu $0 42049 euy © oyeus shane “wwawubje Buea say “jaso> 2+ wu 500" a 0 UL.
