Modern Rhetoric

The art of effective, or persuasive speaking or writing the use of figures of speech and

compositional techniques is a thorough definition of Rhetoric, made popular by Google. Modern

rhetoric is a very vital skill, used mostly by debaters and public speakers to persuade and grab the

attention of their audience into believing every word that proceeds out of their mouth. Rhetoric is

expressed in commercials and advertisements with the same common goal as a debater. For a

rhetoric communication to be effectively executed, it should be clear to you what type of audience

or reader that your message is going across to.

Per anonymous writer; A good speech is like a pencil, it must have a point. It is essential

for your rhetorical statement or question to have a solid point behind it, the reason being that it is

very easy to lose your audience to confusion. Dating back to my final 4th term project in junior

high, I was paired with three other students to work on creating a public billboard with nothing

more than 30 words, advertising absolutely anything to drag students. DJ Neptune (the name

that my team went by), decided to advertise for a club at school, something school related.

The underwear for your problems, everyone including the principal of the school were

at a state of incertitude, parents came for the larger presentation in the auditorium, a father called

out the principal and asked if the presentations were previewed before the final presentation. He

expressed his displeasure about my groups poster being a little too vulgar for kids of our age
bracket, and demanded that it be disqualified. Students with problems of keeping their hands to

themselves, constantly active and are comfortable touching other people without their consent,

kids with ADHD, they are easily mistaken for sexual offenders. The billboard has information and

websites on how and where they can get help around the school premises and therapeutic meetings

where they can be assisted. To fulfil all righteousness the principal had to disqualify my team.

The parent was not ready to look at the positive side or the message but, mostly worried

about the knowledge that children of this present century have acquired in such little years of

living. It is good to know your audience and filter your message, you do not want to crack the

wrong joke or make a rhetorical statement that cloaks the actual message and leave your reader or

listener dumb founded.
