a. Local Studies

According to Agriculture Monthly, Kapas-kapas (Telosma procumbens)

are used by Ilocanos and Tagbania for viands such as inflorence for salads and an

ingredient in dinengdeng dish. It is composed of 0.62% fat, 0.73% protein, 0.59% ash

and 1.30% finer1.

Herbpathy states that Clitoria ternatea contains nutrients such as

alkaloids, anthocyanin, carbohydrates, flavanoids, glycosides, protein, resins, saponins,

starch, sugar, tannins, taraxerol and taraxerone 2.

According to Eric Amonsou, Muthulsi Siwela and Nomusa Diamini,

Bauhinia sp is said to have a similarities to soya, it contains substantial amount of zinc

(6 mg/100 g), iron (3 mg/100 g), potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium 3.

FAO/WHO states that nutritional requirement of an individual is 13

nutrients: 2 macronutrients; fat and protein; and 11 micronutrient: iodine, iron, vitamin A,

vitamin C, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, vitamin B9 (folic acids) and zinc5.

Nutrients are important to an individual because it can help reduce

diseases, high blood pressure, and lower high cholesterol, improves well-being and

ability to fight illness and also increase energy level attested by Tufts Health Plans6.

National Health and Medical Research states that nutrition and diet plays

an important role in ones body. By eating healthy foods, man can get a right amount of

nutrients like proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, making our body healthy7.

According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), eating

vegetables provides an individual a nutrient which is vital for health and maintain ones

body8.
