1.) What are some of the responsibilities of the employer?

What the responsibilities of the supervisor?

Ensure the health and safety of all workers under their direct supervision.
Know the WorkSafeBC requirements that apply to work being supervised and ensure that they are
followed
Ensure that workers under their supervision are made aware of all known or reasonably foreseeable
health and safety duties
Consult and cooperate with joint committee members or workers health and safety representatives,
and cooperate with others carrying out occupational health and safety duties
Ensure that the appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing are available, properly worn
when required, and properly inspected and maintained

Investigate unsafe conditions reported to them and ensure that corrective action is taken without
delay
Supervisors must know and comply with occupational health and safety requirements. A Supervisor is
defined in the Occupational Health and Safety as a person who instructs, directs and controls workers
in the performance of their duties.





What are the responsibilities of the worker?

Cooperate with the joint committee or worker health and safety representative, WorkSafeBC officers,
and any other person carrying out occupational health and safety duties
Learn and follow safe work procedures
Be alert to hazards, and report hazards or problems to the supervisor or employer
Use the protective clothing, devices, and equipment provided
Perform work in a safe manner. Dont engage in horseplay or work while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or
other causes
Refuse to do work that they have reasonable cause to believe would create an undue hazard to the
health and safety of any person
Immediately report an unsafe situation to their supervisors or employer

What if I think a certain task is likely to endanger me or my co-workers?

4. A machine is running without proper guards and protection. Who is responsible to address and fix

5. A worker is caught not wearing protective eye wear. When confronted by an inspector, the worker
confesses that he was trained and knows the companys strict policy that eye wear must be worn on at
all times. In this scenario who is at fault: worker, supervisor or employer? Explain.

The Supervisor. It is the supervisors job to ensure that you wear protective gear at all times but it is the
responsibility of the worker to be wearing the proper protective gear








6. What does due diligence mean? How does this help in safety?

Due diligence reasonable steps taken by a person in order to satisfy a legal requirement, especially in
buying or selling something. It helps because it makes you do everything by the book and following the proper
safety procedures
