Rose Tylers Fingerless Mittens

Materials:
- 1 skein Knit Picks Gloss
Fingering (220 yards)
- Size 1 (2.5 mm)
double pointed needles
or one/two circular needles
- Tapestry needle
- A bit of waste yarn
- 3 stitch markers
Gauge:
32 sts/ 4 in
42 rows/ 4 in
Size:
Womens medium
- 7.5 finished circumference
Abbreviations:
[R]: ... = for the right glove
[L]: ... = for the left glove
[R/L]: ... = instructions for both
m1 = make 1 stitch from the row
below
2/2 LC = slip 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, knit next 2 sts, knit sts from cable needle.
2/2 RPC = slip 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, knit next 2 sts, purl sts from cable needle.
2/2 LPC = slip 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, purl next 2 sts, knit sts from cable needle.

Instructions:
[R/L]: Cast on 63 sts: place a marker at beginning of round.
Begin working pattern for first 34 sts, then P1, *K1, P1, repeat from * to end of round.
Continue working as established with the pattern worked on the first part and ribbing on the
palm side for 4 more rows.
Work pattern as established and purl all palm side sts (29 sts) through row 17 of second pattern
repeat.

Thumb gusset:
[L]: Work as established to the end of the round (row 18), place marker (1st), m1, beginning of
round marker is 2nd marker. (64 sts)
Work as established to the 1st marker, P1, m1. (65 sts)
[R]: Work as established to the end of the pattern row (row 18), place marker (1st), m1, place
marker (2nd). (64 sts)
Work as established to the 1st marker, P1, m1, purl to the end of the round. (65 sts)
[R/L]: Increase for the thumb on rows 21, 24, 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 as follows: work to 1st marker, m1,
purl to 2nd marker, m1, work to end of round. There are 16 sts between markers.
After working row 17 of pattern, separate 16 sts of thumb onto waste yarn and continue to end
of round as established.

Hand:
[R/L]: Continue as established (at row 18) through row 8 of pattern.
Work row 9 of pattern, then P1, *K1, P1, repeat from * to end of round.
Continue working as established with the pattern worked on the first part and ribbing on the
palm side for 3 more rows.
Bind off in established pattern.

Thumb:
Place 8 sts from the palm side, and
8 sts from the back of the hand on
two needles. Purl 16 sts, pick up 2 st
from the side of the hand to close
the gap (18 sts total). Continue in
reverse stockinette until there are 9
rows total.
Bind off in knit.

Finishings:
Weave in all ends and use them to
close any holes at thumb (if
necessary).
