Looking forward to the Christmas Party Kickoff tomorrow. The agenda is as follows:

Christmas Comfort Overview (15m)

Theme w/ Scripture
Christmas Comfort - Its a Wonderful Love
Scripture - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion
and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those
in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Cor 1:3-4 NIV
Providing comfort to others during the Christmas season, during a season of someone's life
that may need comforting. God and Jesus both comfort us, so that we know how to provide
comfort to others.
Why It's a Wonderful life - play on words? Secular hijacking of Christmas. Its about
Jesus and His wonderful love. God promised a savior. No what ifs. No what if Jesus had
not been born to fulfilled Gods promise.
It is a great story about the impact we can have both positively and negatively
on others as we journey through life. George Bailey, the lead character, really
did have a wonderfully abundant life here on earth, but he didnt see it until an
angel allowed him to see what the world would be like had he not been born.
Christmas season can be hectic; full of distractions, errands, and run the gamut of
emotions (stress, anxiety, loneliness, sadness) . Want to create an environment of
comfort. Bring yourself to enjoy fellowship with your VBC friends.
Comfort Origins
Restore sense of well being
Strengthening, support, consolation. Something producing physical ease
The basic concept for comfort in both the Old and New Testaments is encouragement,
whether by words or the presence of another to help in time of need. Synonymous words are
console, help, give relief, cheer up, exhort, and fear not.
The gospel is given in Isaiah 40:1, where he exhorts, "Comfort, comfort my people, says your
God." The final twenty-six chapters of Isaiah are often called "the volume of comfort" with its
promise of present comfort and the future promise of the suffering servant who comes to give
hope, help, and release"to comfort all who mourn" ( 61:3 ).
In both Testaments, God is the author of comfort ( Isa 51:12 ; 2 Cor 1:3 ). Christ is comforter,
intercessor, advocate. The Holy Spirit is the Counselor sent by Jesus to be our Comforter. The
church and the Christian are to function as comforters ( 2 Cor 1:4 ; 7:7 ).
