r Rdhkua, the place where the Lord plays most beautiful and loving divine Pastimes with rmat
Rdhrn,HisownPleasurePotency,issituatedatadistanceof150kmfromDelhi,26kmfromMathura(U.P),
22kmfromVndvanandjust4kmawayfromGovardhan.Itisthemostsplendidofallthedivineplaces.

Of all the holy places where Ka enjoyed His Pastimes viz, Mathura, Vndvan and Govardhana, r
Rdhkua is the most dear to Him because He has His most Lovable and sweet divine Pastimes (with
Rdhrn)here.

rRdhkuaisnon-differentfromrmatiRdhrn.Allthesacredwatersofvariousrivershavetakenthe
shelterofRdhkua,henceItisthemostsacredandholiestofalltheholyplaces.Itnotonlysanctifiesbut
alsobestowsLoveanddevotiontoKainitsHighestform.
rmanMahprabhuwhoisRdhKa,combinedformhasHimselfstated-
WhoeverbathesevenonceinThiskuasopure,IgranthimRdh-likelove,Thatsforsure!

The real svarpa of r Rdhkua is not visible to material eyes and therefore The Kua as well as Its
Dhmavss appear ordinary. Hence even if we enter the Dhma, unless and until we consider each and every
livingentityastranscendental,weshallonlycommitoffences.
r Gurudeva Clarifies- Dhma reveals itself. Each and every living entity of Dhma is worshipable let alone
committingoffences.
Therefore, it is important to know its glories and original/real svarpa which is visible only to the eyes of the
meditativedevoteesblessedwiththeLoveanddevotiontormatiRdhrn.
rla Prabodnanda Sarasvat in his book ,r Vndvan Mahimmta and rla Kdsa Kavirja Gosvm in
GovindaLlmta,havedescribedthetranscendentalformandinexpressiblebeautyofrRdhkua
Onallfoursidestherearebejewelledstepsandbanksmadeofgems.Onallfourbanks,therearebejewelled
altarsandbothsidesareadornedwitheightbenchesmadeofgemstones.

Eachpavilionisflankedonbothsidesbyswingshangingfrombranchesoftree.Theswingsaredeckedwith
variousflowersanddecorations.TheswingshangfromChampakatreesinthesouth,fromtheKadambatreesin
theeast,fromMangotreesinthewestandBakulatreesinthenorth.Theswingsaremadeofgemstones.

In between the East and the south east, where Rdhkua meets ymakua, there is a beautiful bridge
erectedongem-studdedpedestals.

undertheleadershipofrVrddev,onecanfindinnumerousflowersladenwiththeingredientsofserviceto
the Divine Couple. Goddesses of the forest are seen collecting fruits and tubers. The flower-groves are
surroundedbyhundredsofmaidservants.
rRdh-Kasnocturnalconversationsarebeingloudlyandsweetlytranslatedbytheparrot-couples.Their

Oneisthrilledeverymomentbythegreatlyexuberantfragranceandeverincreasingsweetnessofthelotuses,
waterliliesandotherflowersthatpervadetheflowergrovesinwhichtheDivinecouplesports.Onemaybehold
verybeautifulwondrousgemstuddedabodesofthesakhsbeingreflectedinthewater,appearingasiftheyare
ascendingfromthekuaitself.
Such is the wonderful beauty of r Kua which appears in the meditative hearts of the pure devotees and
revealstheDivinePastimesofrYugala.
Raghunthdsa Gosvm spent forty years on the Kua meditating and wailing for the divine seva of rmati
Rdhrn,onitsBanksandsagescanstillhearhisheartrenderingcriesthere.

AdventofrRdhkuaandrymakua-
ThetwinkuasappearedinveryinterestingwayduringthepastimesofLordrKaonthisearth.Thishas
beendescribedinVarahpura.
InGovardhanaParikramaofdivarahaithasbeendescribedas:
OncerKa,knowingAristsurasintentiontokillHim,cametothenorthofMnasagagtograzeHiscows.
SeeingthatHisvictimhadcomesoclose,AristsurathoughttoassumetheformofabulltofinishHimoff.r
Ka,theoriginofMahviu,simplycaughtholdofhishorns,pickedhimuplikeatoy,andthrewhimaway
withsuchaforce,thatthedemonlosthislife-airs.
Later, rmat Rdhrn came there with Her friends to meet r Ka. When She heard that r Ka had
killedabull,sincethecreatureofbovinespeciesisconsideredtobesacred,SherefusedtoassociatewithHim,
onwhichKapleadedthathewasademonwhichcameouttodestroytheVraja.TothisRdhrnrepliedthat
He had to go by what great people like Paurnms, Grg say and she heard that even Indra, the king of the
materialheavens,hadtoatoneforthesinofkillingVritasura,whowasabrhamaabybirthandforpurifying
thesin,hehadtobatheintheholywatersofentireuniverse.SheddingoffHismodesty,rKathenretorted
astohowdarethatHewassuggestedtogoaroundtheuniverse,rather,Hewouldbringalltheholyplacesthere
instead and bathe therein. Saying thus He forcefully struck the earth with His left heel. Immediately Bhogvati
Gagappeared.ThenHebeckedallthesacredriverstojointhiswaterandtheyobeyed.Tothis,Rdhrnand
sakhs refused to believe Ka saying that they were holy places unified. Then all the holy places arose with
foldedpalmsandspokeup-iamGodvar,iamYamun,iamBhramaputraAfterthisrKabathedin
thewatersofallholyplacestoRdhrnssatisfactionanddeclaredproudlythatHewouldseealltheseholy
places reside eternally in this pure lake and jokingly said to Gops- you people havent performed a single
piousactivityinallyourlives.rmatexhibitedHertranscendentalanger(mna)andseeingabighoofprintof
theAristsurademononthewesternsideofrymakua,ShebrokeoneofHerbanglesandstarteddigging
there.Withthehelpofthousandsofhergirl-friends(sakhs)andassistants(majars)alargedepressioninthe
earthwascreatedwhichrevealedadivinelake.KawasastonishedandtoldrmatRdhrntotakewater
fromHiskuatofillit,butSherefused,consideringthatwaterpollutedbythesinofKasbull-killing.She
thenmadearrangementstobringwaterfromMnas-Gag,nearly5kilometersawaywithmillionsofsakhs,
carryingcroresofpitchers.ThenasperKasindications,personifiedsacredwatersappearedagainintheir
divine forms. They paid obeisances to Rdhrn and glorified Her devoutly with tear-filled eyes. Then the
merciful daughter of Vabhnu heard the glorifying prayers of the holy places, She was satisfied and granted
themaplaceinHerlake.HavingobtainedthemercyofrRdhik,theholyplacespresentinrymakua
mostjoyouslyandspeedilyfilledrRdhkuawiththeirwaters.

Meaning-r Krsna said whosoever takes bath in Rdhkua, the seed of intense love (Prema-Bhakti) which
rmat Rdhrn has for Him would be given. Similarly, rmat Rdhrn took bath in ymakua and
announcedthattoanyonewhotakesbathinymakuaandlivesonItsbanks,allhissinswillbedestroyed
andwillbeverydeartoMe.

ThewishyieldingtreeofloveforKrsnaswiftlygrowsintheheartofanyonewhoalwaysbathinrRdhkua,
suchistheprowessofthekua.

WhenLordKawaspersonallypresentonearth,theKuaswerevisibleintheiroriginalform,butafterHe
finishedHispastimesonearth,theKuastooconcealedtheiroriginalforms.
Moreover,withthepassageoftimetheybecamelostuntildiscoveredbyrmanMahprabhu.

ThediscoveryofrRdhkua-ymakua-
Mahprabhu arrived in Braja during the reign of Sikander Lodhi , He circumambulated the Vraj Mandala and
dancinginecstasy,reachedthevillageofArit.TherehecametoHisexternalsensesandaskedthevillagersthe
whereaboutsofrRdhkua,butnobodyknew.
Theall-knowingLordwentaheadandbathedinthelittlewaterthathadcollectedinbetweentwopaddyfields.
Allthevillagersweresurprisedtoseethis.FilledwithLove,theLordglorifiedrRdhkua-Amongstallthe
Gops,RdhrnisthedearmosttoKa.InthesamewayHerlakeisalsodearmosttoHim.Hedancedon
itsbanksbyrememberingtheDivinePastimesenactedtherein.HedonnedtilakawiththeearthofRdhkua
andaskedBhattacharyatocarrysomeearthalong.

GosvmsandRdhkua-
r Rpa Gosvm and r Santana Gosvm were given the charge of reestablishing Vndvan and Temples
there,byrmanMahprabhu.
AfterthedisappearanceofMahprabhuandsubsequentlySvarpaDmodars,rpdaRaghunthadsaGosvm
came to Rdhkua at the instructions of r Rpa-Santan to do Bhajana there. The personification of
renunciationrpdadidhisBhajanainopen.

Once,whileRaghunthdsGosvmwasdoinghisBhajana,atigerandatigresscameattheBankstodrink
water,thenrKapersonallycametherestoodfortheprotectionofrpdadsGosvm.SantanaGosvm
sawthisandKasmiledtohimanddisappeared.HeinformedRaghunthadsaGosvmofthissothathe
buildkuraanddoBhajanainit,insteadoftakingsevfromtheLordHimself.
Later,againduringdaytime,whenitwasveryhot,rRaghunthadsaGosvmwasabsorbedinremembering
rmat Rdhrn and tears rolled from his eyes. At the same time, he was sweating profusely . Karunmayi
Rdhrn Herself came there and shaded Raghuntha dsa Gosvm with Her own cloth while bearing all
sunraysHerself.Onviewingthis,SantanaGosvmdisturbedhiminbetweenandentailedwholescene,upon
which Raghuntha dsa Gosvm repented a lot. Santana Gosvm consoled him and immediately made
arrangementsforhiskura.Sincethen,kurasystembeganatRdhkua.
rpad Raghuntha dsa is the first Mahata of Rdhkua and instrumental in getting r Rdhkua and

ymakua excavated and enlarged, thereby revealing Kankan Kua in Rdhkua which Rdhrn and
sakhsmadewithTheirbangles..AlsorevealingVajrakuainymakua.

LordfulfilledDsaGosvmpdsdesiretocleanthekuasbycominginthedreamofapersonanddirecting
himtodonateitatRdhkuaforThecleaningwhowastodonateitatBadrintha.

Thefivepadavasintheformoftreeswerealsorevealedtohimwhentheycameinhisdreamtorequestnotcut
offthetreesnearymakua,whichiswhyIthasirregularshape.
ThelandunderymakuaandRdhkuawerecalledkariandGorirespectivelyandwereboughtbyJva
Gosvm.HewasthesecondMahatofRdhkua.
rlaKadsakavirjaGosvmcomposedChaitanyaCaritamtainRdhkuaitself.

r Raghuntha dsa Gosvm spent 41 years on the banks of r Rdhkua remembering and wailing for
rmat Rdhrn and Her service. During the last years of his life, he recorded his love and separation filled
prayerstoRdhrninhisbookrVilpakusumajal.

WhilelivingonthebanksofrRdhkuaa,Raghunthabecameobliviousofhisbodyandremainedabsorbed
inbhajanaalldayandnight.Therefore,rRpa-SantanacametoRdhkuatoinquireabouthim.Evenin
thissituationhehadadesiretoperformsaskraofthekuas,itisduetothisthateventodaythekuasand
thelandattachedtothemarehailedastheBhajanawealthoftheentireGauyaVaiavacommunity.Weowe
thistorRaghunthadsaGosvmalone.

rRdhkuaisthecrestjewelofrVrajaMadala,mostlovableandgloriousplaceforGauyaVaiavas.

For past more than 400 years the Gauya Vaiavas have incessantly endeavored for the protection of The
KuasandtheViraktaVaiavawhohavetakenItsshelter,fromtyrantsaswellasignorants.

AtrRdhkua,therearemanytemples,afewBaithaks,BhajanasthalisandSamadhi-Mandirs,allhavinga
significanceandgloriesoftheirown.
