Rules for Intra University moot Court Competition 2016 (3rd & 4th September)

1) The Intra University Moot Court Competition, 2016 (hereinafter referred to as the
IUMCC) is a qualifying competition to select individuals who shall be allowed to
represent the University in all national and international moot court competitions until the
next IUMCC is conducted.
2) Eligibility:

2.1) All students who have registered their names with the MCC for the Intra university
Moot Court Competition 2016 and who have received their respective team codes.
3) Competition rounds

3.1) The competition will be held in five phases:


Phase 1- The preliminary round (which will commence at 8.30 am on 3rd September
2016)
Ranking Phase
Phase 2- Round of 64 (From the participating team the top 64 individuals will advance to
Phase 2. Wherein they will moot individually and not as teams)
Phase 3- Quarter Finals (Top 16 individuals from the 64 individuals who participated in
phase 2 will advance)
Phase 4- Semi Finals (Top 8 individuals from the 16 individuals who participated in
phase 3 will advance)
Phase 5- Finals (Will comprise of the top 2 Individuals who participated in Phase 3)

3.2) Only during Phase 1 i.e Preliminary round will the participants be mooting as a team.
In the subsequent rounds participants will have to argue individually.
3.3) For the purpose of the preliminary round each team will be given a total of 15
minutes inclusive of their rebuttal and sur rebuttal time. Sur Sur rebuttal will be at the
discretion of the judges.

3.4) For the subsequent rounds each individual will be given 15 minutes to present their
cases.

3.5) No team or individual will be allowed to use their mobile phones, tablets, laptops or
any other electronic device inside the moot court hall. Any team or individual caught
using the above mentioned will face disqualification from the IUMCC.

4) Memorial

4.1) All teams must submit memorials for both the sides i.e Plaintiff/Claimant and
Defenddant/Respondent

4.2) All teams must submit the soft copy of their memorial on 28th August 2016 by
11.59PM (IST). Teams that fail to submit the soft copy will be subjected to a two year
ban on all Moots, ADR and Trial advocacy .
a) The subject of the mail should be in the following format Team Code Number : ....
b) The memorials should be ONLY in pdf format, memorials submitted in Word
format will not be entertained and will be considered as not submitted.
c) The Memorials should be named only in the following manner : Eg, T20 Respondents
( Team code followed by the side)

4.3) Hard copy of the memorials must be submitted on 30th August 2016 in the Seminar
hall.
Team Code Numbers 1-30 - 3:00 P.M to 3.30P.M
Team Code Numbers 31-60 - 3.35P.M to 4.05P.M
Team Code Number 61- 90 - 4.10P.M to 4.40 P.M
Team Code Number 91 95 - 4.45PM to 5.00 P.M
All teams are requested to strictly adhere to the timings.

4.4) All teams must submit three copies of both sides of their memorials.

4.5) All memorials must have the allocated team code only on the right hand upper
corner of the cover page. No other page should contain the team code.

4.6) The memorials should not contain any identification apart from the team code
allotted. If any discrepancy or any attempt to disclose identity by any team or individual
participant is noticed by the organizers, the registration of the participant shall be
cancelled.
5) Fixtures and Memorial Exchange:

5.1) The lot picking will take place on 30th of August.

5.2) Exchange of memorial will take place on 31st of August in the seminar hall, in the
same time frame mentioned in (4.3).

5.3) Fixtures will be put up on the notice board on 2nd September.

6) Prohibition on Scouting

6.1) The IUMCC prohibits Scouting of a teams future opponent. No team member or
individual participating in the competition shall attend the arguments of any other team or
individual during the competition except for the Quarter Final, Semifinal and Finals or
receive information from any person who has attended any rounds in Phase 1 and Phase 2
of the IUMCC during the IUMCC.

7) Team Codes and Individual Codes:

7.1) Team Codes and Individual Codes will be intimated via mail.
8) Allocation of Moots:

8.1) Allotment of Moots shall take place as and when a moot is notified by the MCC.

8.2) All Participants of the IUMCC who are ranked within the first 64 ranks including
the 64th rank are eligible to become speakers in a in a team which that represent the
college.

8.3) All Participants of the IUMCC who are ranked from 65 to 100 are eligible to become
only researchers in a team that will represent the college. Only in case, a moot is not
preferred by anyone in the first 64 ranks, then the participants from 64th rank to 100th
ranks are eligible to participate as speakers.

8.4) Participants ranked within the first 64 ranks can also be a researcher in a team, they
need not necessarily be only a speaker.

8.5) In deciding which team goes for a particular moot the overall aggregate of the
participants will be taken. The team with the lowest aggregate is given priority for the
moot.

8.6) In case of any moot that is not taken up by the first 100 ranked participants,
individuals from the list of participants are allowed to form a team amongst themselves.
Therefore, those who do not participate in the UMCC may not be eligible to represent the
University till the IUMCC for the next academic year is conducted.
9) Awards:

9.1) On the basis of the consolidated rank list, the following citations hall be awarded to
the participants:
a) Best Team: The tam with the highest total score ( Oral and Memorial Score) in the
preliminary rounds.
b) Winner: The individual who obtains the first rank in the consolidated rank list.
c) Runners up: The individual who obtained the second rank in the consolidated rank
list.
d) Best Memorial: The team which obtains the highest score in the memorials.
e) Best Young Advocate: a participant from the 1st year who reaches the highest round
or scores the highest in a round from amongst all 1st year students.

10) Miscellaneous:

10.1) All participants are expected to maintain decorum in the court during the
competition and are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the legal
profession.

10.2) The Organizing committee reserve the right to take appropriate action for any
unethical, unprofessional and immoral conduct.

10.3) The dress code for the participants shall be formals. Men are required to strictly
wear western formals only i.e black pant, white shirt and black shoes. Women can wear
either western formals ( black formal skirt or black pants with a white shirt along with
black formal foot wear) or Indian formals ( White Kurta along with black salawar or
Chudidar).
