Unit: R3
Topic: Pick any teaching and learning activity (refer appendix)

1) Identify the skill taught

The skill taught in this activity is listening and speaking.

2) Explain your reason

In this activity, pupils have to watch video songs about the spending and
earning and needs and wants which are displayed by the teacher. So, there is listening
skill involved here where the pupils have to watch the video songs and listen carefully
to know the content of it. Then, pupils also have to listen to what their teacher is
teaching about the basic needs after watching the both video songs. So, it obvious that
listening skill is involved here.
Subsequently, in the practice stage, pupils have to arrange the word cards from
the envelope and determine needs and wants. Then, have to paste it on a piece of
paper and present their table to their friends. So, the pupils have to speak out and
elaborate their points in front of everyone which involves speaking skill. After that,
speaking skill is also involved when the teacher gives a situation, asks pupils to think
of a solution to the problem and present their role play in front of the class. So, it clearly
can be seen that through this activity both the listening and speaking skills are being
honed and emphasised among pupils.
This activity makes the pupils to think rationally to find a solution for a situation.
It makes them to participate actively in the class and the teacher plays a role as a
facilitator. So, this is a pupil-centred activity too.

3) In the event, if that is not reading activity convert it into one.

This activity which involves listening and speaking skill can be converted into
reading activity. For an instance, at first the teacher showed two video songs to the
pupils. To make it as a reading activity, the teacher can give the lyrics of the song to
each pupil. Pupils have to read the lyrics and underline the difficult words. Then, the
teacher will give a dictionary to each group and the pupils have to find the meaning of
difficult words as a group. After that, pupils write the meaning of the words in their book
and they read the lyrics again. Here, the reading skill is being emphasised. Moreover,
the teacher can continue with other activity in the next stage in the lesson plan. For an
example, teacher divides pupils into groups and ask them to make i-think maps like
bubble map to present their ideas and thoughts after read the lyrics given. This makes
them to think critically and also makes them to use the skimming and scanning to
search for the points in the lyrics given. So, reading skill is the focus skill here.
