anyone in the process, to prefer one outcome over another. For someone trying to solve
a problem around the house, succumbing to these kinds of biases is not such a big
deal. But in the scientific community, where results have to be reviewed and duplicated,
In this century, we can already avoid the bias by using the scientific tools
effectively and efficiently. We, the future educators, need to get through this by seeking
help and gathering important details to provide us what we need. These scientific tools
are already made, we just need to shift ourselves to this new process and embrace it. At
the same time, scientific techniques need to be transferred from those who have tried it
and have seen its usefulness. So at the end of the day, we can produce 21 st century
skilled learners who have mustered creativity, critical thinking, communication and
The event featured both the scientific tools and techniques in preparing the
future educators of the 21st century. The workshop outlined the useful functions of
software and multimedia presentation tools as well as the online and available
digital resources.
The Seminar organized by the Third year BSEd Mathematics Major students got
satisfactory reviews from the participants.
General Objective:
develop skills and learn techniques on how to use the available scientific tools.
Specific Objectives:
1. Explore the useful operations of a Scientific Calculator every educator can use;
2. Operate the available spreadsheet software to input and compute data using MS
Excel, OpenOffice Calc and LibreOffice Calc
3. Manipulate data simulation and visualization using online resources: Geogebra,
PhET, and Wolfram Alpha
4. Maximize the use of presentation software: MS Powerpoint, Prezi and Keynote to
easily facilitate the class and the lesson at the same time.
5. Rebuild the mind of every aspiring educator to develop their skills by shifting to
the use of tools.

The opening remark was given by our instructor in Special Topic Course, Mrs.
Ma. Diana S. Guieb. She has officially welcomed the participants and the guest speaker
to the seminar workshop. She has also shared insights about the teaching career that
BS Applied Physics University of the Philippines Los Baos, 2010 Cum Laude
- She has been teaching in the field of her expertise for 7 years now
- One of her tasks is to analyze and critique the working theses of her
students
- She has used most of the scientific tools in her career as an
educator; spreadsheet, presentation, data analysis software and
online resources.
LECTURE PROPER
As the lecture began, introduction and greetings of the speaker to her listeners
were given. She has put to perspective the great task of every educator in his/her life
career.
The definition of terms to be encountered were first discussed and highlighted
before going to the gist of the discussion. The scientific method was shown to give
bigger perspective of why the seminar workshop was being held.
One by one the speaker had discussed the use of every scientific tool that is
available. Scientific Calculator is used for its basic operation but it has more functions:
statistics data input, linear regression, measure of central tendency, etc. In
Spreadsheet, teachers can explore the different techniques and shortcuts that are
helpful in input and analysis of data (students performance scores). Content standard
to what to put in Powerpoint Presentation was also discussed deeper and elaborated.
The speaker has asked the participants to use their Scientific Calculators and
Laptop as the discussion proceeded with hands on activities. The use of online
resources that can be helpful in facilitating lessons was also advised and
recommended by the speaker.

AWARDING OF CERTIFICATES
As the seminar workshop ended, the BSED MATH President, Karlo Sityar, gave
his closing remarks on behalf of the BSED Math Major. He gave credits to the important
wisdom learned from the lecture specifically the useful tools the future educators are
He also gave his warm appreciation and gratitude to the speaker who had
willingly shared her expert knowledge, experiences and time in the event, to the
The topic, speaker, physical set-up and organization of the program were the
components of the seminar to be evaluated. The topic was rated based on relevance of
the topic to the teaching profession, whether it was an interesting topic, and if the
audience learned a lot from the lecture. The speakers were evaluated based on
knowledge and mastery of the content, skillful method and manner of presentation, level
of presentation appropriate to the audience, clarity and speaking ability, organization
and presentation and adequacy of discussion period. The physical set-up was rated
based on conductivity for learning, cleanliness and orderliness and clarity of audio-
visual equipment. The organization of the program was evaluated based on selection of
the resource speaker, flow of registration, accommodation, presentation of the program,
quality of lecture materials and seminar kits and if the objectives were met.
The participants were asked to evaluate the seminar on a scale of one to five,

What part(s) of the seminar did you like best, and why?
The part(s) of the seminar I liked the best is the part where the speaker
shared her knowledge about the scientific calculator though I am English major. I
became aware of the other functions and also the part where she taught us how
to organize data, and insert table of contents without changing the organization
What part(s) of the seminar did you like least, and why?
Using excel because Im not really familiar with the use of it and how it is
done.
Other Comments/suggestions:
The topic should be relevant also to other majors. Not only for a group of
people with similar specialization.
Very knowledgeable speaker
