Rick & Morty Analysis

1. ANALYTICAL APPROACHES

Rick & Morty Season 3, Episode 2 (Rickmancing the Stone)

In the episode Rickmancing the Stone many themes are explored as well as this
many discrete references to other media content on of these is the title of the
episode being a parody of the 1989 film Romancing the stone, this is done as the
episode has vague similarity due to the genre of the film being about a young women
trying to find her hero, and within the Rick & Morty episode Summer finds herself
falling for one of the tribal members Hemorrhage, the name of the character has
significance due to the nature of the word being related to blood being released for
the circulatory system which is important in emphasising the tough and violent
exterior of the character.
The episode Rickmancing the Stone is primarily based in the Post- Apocalyptic
Dimension, this is parody of the Mad Max Franchise and this is easily portrayed with
the distinct similarity between the appearance of the character Hemorrhage and the
character in the Mad Max franchise Lord Humungus, this is done by the writes in
order to create a more humorous interpretation of the Mad Max franchise as well as
creating more context within the episode, Other characters costumes have also be
heavily influenced by the mad Max franchise one of these being Summer's who has
the appearance of Aunty Entity, this continues the theme portrayed in this heavily
parodied episode.
The use of the Armothy has significance due the writer's interpretation of the
classically used imagery of the Evil Hand, this is portrayed in many films and
literature on of the most notable in recent times is Harry Potter, this is portrayed by
the character Wormtail.
Throughout this episode grief is major theme and this is initial visualised to the
audience by the divorce of Jerry and Beth in which Summer suffers and in order to
rectify this she turns to Hemorrhage, in order to replace the father figure in her life,
as well as this affects Morty in more a violent away which he truly express his feeling
with the help of Armonty in which he quickly and brutally disposes of enemies.
To conclude this episode ends in where the whole civilization which has been
established in three weeks by Rick begins to experience problems in which in
today's society were constantly battling, as main issues in advancement in
technology in which is begin to alienated society within each other and this is
massively exaggerated by the fact the Summer at the beginning is raiding for food
although by the end she is visiting a supermarket for food, this ultimately shows the
transitions as well as the effect technology is having on our lives.

Rick & Morty Season 3 Episode 3 (Pickle Rick)

William Edwards

In the episode Pickle Rick, many cultural references are explored by the producers
Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon as well as this many themes regarding the state of
the family have been detailed in order to allow the audience to get a impression the
vulnerability of this family, due to the divorce of Jerry and Beth.
In the episode Rick is forced to survive as a Pickle, Rick does this by creating a
weaponized suit in order to defeat many rodents and obstacles one may face in the
sewage systems, the suit created by Rick is very similar to the one portrayed in the
Iron Man franchise, and this is emphasised by the use of cinematics on the creation
of the suit there allowing the viewer to understand the potential power in which Rick
is capable of. The suit also references Wolverine although this is done by the use of
external metal claws in which Rick decapitates the rats in the sewer with, this
emphasises the brutal and violent nature of Rick's character therefore allowing the
audience to understand the character personality in more depth. In the action office
scene the episode references the helicopter scene in Die-hard this i s important as
that scene is one of the most iconic action films and this gives the viewer a
comedical value due the fact that the same actions have been carried out by a
Pickle.
The themes in the episode are very important in progressing the series as this
episode follows the backlash of the divorce and this episode highlights the effect in
which it can have on the children involved in the process although in the episode
Summer and Morty are facing issues in their social life in which the school believe
are direct consequences of the breakdown of the family although later on in the
episode it is told to the audience that these are not connected with the divorce. To
conclude the strength of the relationships are clearly highlighted in this episode and
this allows the viewer to understand what the family are going through as well as
understand the impact in which Jerry had on the family life, which clearly the episode
portrays this a little difference in the family social life.

address these by stating that we're all inspired by The Simpsons and all these other

4. JERRY SMITH

Personally when watching Rick and Morty i get the impression that Jerry is outcasted
in his own family and this is important in understanding his role in the family as due
to the show being focus primarily on Rick, doesnt allow the cartoon to show Jerry as
authoritative figure and subsequently shows Morty looking up to Rick and having a
stronger relationship with Rick and Jerry. The relationship Morty has with Rick in
important in understand Jerry as it clearly shows Jerry as an estranged father whom
is portrayed as a depressed man due to the breakdown on his marriage in which he
suffers massively.
