Contest for media outlets from Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia to participate in
Multimedia Web Innovation Lab in Kyiv, Ukraine
i. General Information
Within implementation of a cross-border project Strengthening Independent Media in Moldova,
Ukraine and Georgia, NGO Internews Ukraine invites media outlets from Ukraine, Moldova
and Georgia to apply for participation in the Multimedia Web Innovation Lab, a 3-day event for
newsrooms to be held on November 16-18, 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Multimedia Web Innovation Lab puts together representatives of newsrooms to develop templates
and tools that will allow media organizations to emphasize the effective use of multimedia content
and better engage their audiences online.
The Lab has supported the creation of a free, open-source, content-manageable universal website
template with automated online outreach tools designed for easy use by cash-strapped local media
and adaptable to the needs of local media. This template will be presented during the Lab.
Nine teams members each representing Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine will be invited to Kyiv to
participate in a three-day event. Participants will learn about theory and practice of gamification
and pitch their project ideas for funding. Three strongest project ideas will receive grants of
$2,000 per each country.

Each team should demonstrate capacity in implementing innovative ideas in the online
media, collaboration with the civil society and engagement of citizen journalism in
implemented projects (at least, three examples);
Newsrooms represented by teams should follow the standards of professional ethic;
At least one member in team should speak English as working language of the Lab;
Propose a project idea which should include elements of interaction with audience and
need to be realized in period of two months of Innovation Lab completion. The projects
schedule and deadlines will be set up by organizers and winners.
iv. Selection criteria for the participants of Multimedia Web Innovation Lab
Applications will be evaluated by the project team based on criteria:
- professionalism of the applicants;
- creativity/innovation of the proposed project;
- soundness and feasibility of the proposed project;

- coherence and clarity of the costs descriptions/reasonable budget.
5. Budget
3 grants of $2,000 each will be awarded for the implementation strongest Innovation Lab project
ideas. Each winner should represent 1 country.
Note: The project Strengthening Independent Media in Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia aims
to improve access to useful information for citizens of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia by
improving the capacity of local media, applying innovations in journalism, encouraging dialog
among youth, training older people to get the most out of the internet, and stimulating
collaboration between journalists from all three countries.
