equations x - 2 y = 10, 2 x + y + 3 z = 8, - 2 y + z = 7.
30. In a survey of richest persons of three residential society A, B, C it is found that in society A, 5 believe in
honesty, 10 in hard work, 5 in unfair means while in B, 5 in honesty, 8 in hard work, 7 in unfair means and in C, 6
in honesty, 8 in hard work, 6 in unfair means. If the per day income of 20 richest persons of society A,B,C are
32,500, 30,500, 31,000 respectively, then find the per day income of each type of people by matrix
method.
(i) Which type of people has more per day income?
(ii) According to you, which type of person is better for country?
31. A diet is to contain 30 units of vitamin A, 40 units of vitamin B and 20 units of vitamin C. Three types of foods
F1,F2 and F3 are available. One unit of food F1 contains at 3 units of vitamin A, 2 units of vitamin B and 1 unit of
vitamin C. One unit of food F2 contains at 1 unit of vitamin A, 2 units of vitamin B and 1 unit of vitamin C. One
unit of food F3 contains at 5 units of vitamin A, 3 units of vitamin B and 2 units of vitamin C. Represents the
above situation algebraically and find the diet contains each types of food by using matrix method. Why a
proper diet is required for us?

33. If a young man drives his scooter at the speed of 25 km/hr, he has to spend Rs 2 per km on petrol. If he drives
the scooter at the speed of 40 km/hr, it produces more air pollution and increases his expenditure on petrol to
Rs 5 per km. He has a maximum of Rs 100 to spend on petrol and travel a maximum distance in one hour time
with less pollution. Express this problem as an LPP and solve it graphically. What value do you find here?
34. Kellogg is new cereal formed of a mixture of bran and rice that contains at least 88 grams of protein and at leas
36 milligrams of iron. Knowing that bran contains 80 grams of protein and 40 miligrams of iron per kilogram,
and that rice contains 100 grams of protein and 30 milligrams of iron per kilogram, find the minimum cost of
producing this cereal if bran cost Rs 15 per kilogram and rice costs rs 14 per kilogram.
35. A manufacturer considers that men and women workers are equally efficient and so he pays them at the same
rate. He has 30 and 17 units of workers (male and female) and capital respectively, which he uses to produces
two types of goods A and B . To produce one unit of A , 2 workers and 3 units of capital are required while 3
workers and 1 unit of capital is required to produce one unit of B . If A and B are priced at Rs 100 and Rs 120
per unit respectively, how should he produce one unit of B . If A and B are priced at Rs. 100 and Rs 120 per
unit respectively, how should he use his resources to maximize the total revenue? Form the above as an LPP and
solve graphically.

Do you agree with this view of the manufacturer that men and women . Workers are equally efficient and so

should be paid at the same rate?

36. A carpenter has 90, 80 and 50 running feet, respectively of teak, plywood and rosewood. The product A requires
2, 1 and 1 running feet and the product B requires 1, 2 and 1 running feet of teak, plywood and rosewood
respectively. If a would sell for Rs. 48 and B would seel for Rs. 40 per unit, how much of each should he make
and sell in order to obtain the maximum gross income out of his stock of wood:

(i) Give a mathematical formulation to this linear programming problem.

(ii) Use graphical method to solve the problem.
(iii) Indicate clearly the feasible region on graph paper.
(iv) A carpenter is a creator. Comment.
37. Assume that the chances of a patient having a heart attack are 40%. Assuming that a meditation and yoga
course reduces the risk of heart attack by 30% and prescription of certain drug reduces its chance by 25%. At a
time, a patient can choose anyone of the two options with equal probabilities. It is given that after going
through one of the two options, the patient selected at random suffers a heart attack. Find the probability that
the patient followed a course of meditation and yoga. Interpret the result and state which of the above stated
methods, if more beneficial for the patient?
38. A letter is known to have come either from TATANAGAR or from CALCUTTA. On the envelope just two
consecutive letters TA are visible. What is the probability that the letters came from TATANAGAR
39. A test for detection of a particular disease is not fool proof. The test will correctly detect the disease 90% of the
time, but will incorrectly detect the disease 1% of the time. For a large population of which an estimated 0.2%
have the disease, a person is selected at random, given the test , and told that he has the disease. What are the
chances that the person actually have the disease? What precautions can one take to reduce chances of
catching a disease?
40. In answering a question on a MCQ test with 4 choices per question, a student knows the answer, guesses or
copies the answer. Let be the probability that he knows the answer, be the probability that he guesses and
that he copies it. Assuming that a student, who copies the answer, will be correct with the probability , what
is the probability that the student knows the answer, given that he answered it correctly?
Arjun does not know the answer to one of the questions in the test. The evaluation process has negative
marking. Which value would Arjun violate if he resorts to unfair means? How would an act like the above
hamper his character development in the coming years?
