This article gives brief information on the early days of organ transplantation in Sweden. It introduces
some of the regulations and oversight that goes into organ and tissue transplant. Examples of this
include new European directives in terms of working hour restrictions and government rules that will
result in consolidation of transplant activities in only a few centers in the country.

This article gives a personal accounts perspective on an issue regarding organ transplantation in
Sweden. The issue is that Sweden has a very significant organ shortage where many people were put on
waiting at lists at a time. There are three main problems that consists of Swedens public, laws and the
routines of intensive care units. Only 15% of the population sign up to the national donation register. In
addition to this, transplantation legislation is old and vague and some care units dont have adequate
equipment and medicine.
