What is Skype for Business ?
What is Skype for Business ?

Communication and collaboration platform that bring together an experience inspired by


Skype for enterprise use
Features such as:
IM
Audio call
Video call
Web conferencing
Screen sharing

Find and add people to your contact list
Find and add people to your contact list

1 In the Skype for Business main window,


choose Add a Contact , then Add a
Contact in My Organization
2 Type the persons name or email address in
the search box
3 Right-click the listing, choose Add to
Contacts List, and then choose a group to
add the contact to

Check presence status and send an IM
Check presence status

Presence information includes your


contacts' status, such as Available, Busy,
or Away, and a color-coded presence
indicator like green, yellow, or red
Find someone in your Skype for Business
Contacts. Or search for them by typing their
name in the Search box
The color-coded circle and text next to the
contacts name indicates their current
status, like Available, Busy, Offline, In a
call, or In a meeting

Send an Instant Message (IM)

1 In your Skype for Business Contacts list,


find the person you want to send an IM to.
Or search for them by typing their name in
the Search box
2 Double-click on their photo to open an IM
session, or point to their photo and choose
on the Quick Skype for Business bar
3 Type your message at the bottom of the
conversation window, and then press Enter
4 To send an IM to several people at once,
press and hold Ctrl while you select the
names
5 Then point to a photo, choose Send an IM
, type your message, and then press
Enter.

Start an adhoc Skype for Business Meeting
Start an adhoc conference call

1 Choose the people you want to invite by


pressing and holding Ctrl and then
choose their names
2 Right-click and choose Call
3 Choose how you want to start the
conference call
Your contacts receive a notification, and can
accept or decline your invitation

Convert an IM into meeting

In an IM window, choose Call to add audio


Hover over Present ( ) and choose an
option
Choose Present to:
Share your Desktop or a Program
Share a PowerPoint presentation
Select More to use a whiteboard or poll
Add attachments (you can also drag files
onto to the conversation window)
To add people, drag contacts from the
Skype for Business main window into the
bottom of the IM window

Schedule a Skype for Business meeting
Schedule a Skype meeting in Outlook

Go to your Outlook calendar, and choose


New Skype Meeting on the ribbon
Add the invitees, type a Subject, and
specify the Start and End time
The meeting link will be automatically
added to the meeting
This method can also be used to schedule
Skype meeting with external user

In the recipient column, you can include the


email address of external user
The external user will need to click on the
link Join Skype Meeting to start Skype
meeting via web browser ( Skype for
Business Web App)

Join a Skype for Business Meeting
Setup your audio/video device

Before you join a meeting, make sure that


your audio or video is set up:
1 Under Tools, you can choose Audio Device
or Video Device Settings
2 Choose your device in the Audio Device list.
3 Use the Speaker and Microphone sliders to
adjust the volume

The same applies for Video devices

Join a meeting with Skype for Business

You can open up the calendar invitation and


click on Join Skype Meeting
This will bring up the Skype for Business
client and start the meeting

Share your screen
Share your screen

Desktop sharing suitable when you need to switch


between programs, or documents from different programs.
This option is recommended because it uses less
bandwidth
Program sharing use when you need to present specific
programs and do not want people to see anything else
Choose Present ( ) then choose an option:
Choose Present Desktop to share the content on your
desktop
or
Choose Present Programs, and choose the specific
program or document you want to share
Your Skype for Business status changes to Presenting, and
you will not receive instant messages or calls

Upload and share a PowerPoint presentation
Upload and share a PowerPoint presentation

1 Choose Presentation ( ), and then


choose PowerPoint and upload the file that
you want
2 To advance to the next slide, use the
arrows at the bottom of the meeting, or the
arrow keys on your keyboard
3 Choose Notes to see your presenter notes
(only visible to you)
4 If a slide contains a video, video controls
appear. The audio plays for participants
automatically
5 Use the annotation tools to draw, stamp,
highlight, and so on
