TSW create a word cloud that includes important words from the Gingerbread man story. The words should include
setting, characters, dialogue and other words important to the story.

The student’s final word cloud will be graded using a rubric.

Materials:
Wordle.com; computer

The student can dictate the words to the teacher to be typed into the word cloud.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
The students will take a small piece of paper and write down three words that they thought were important
or makes them think about the Gingerbread Man story. Words can be drawn from any of the different
Gingerbread man stories that we had read during the unit.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:

The teacher will explain that they are going to make a word cloud. Explain that a word cloud is a display of
words about a topic, i.e, the Gingerbread man.
Navigate to the website Wordle.com
Demonstrate creating a word cloud. Click on create, and then input the words that the students wrote down
on their lists.
Change the layout, font and color of the text.
Show students how to copy the word cloud into a word document and print.
Explain the rubric to students.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities


Students will go to the computer lab and create their word clouds.

Closure:
Students will share their word clouds with the class, either showing the printed copy or using the
whiteboard.
Students work will be displayed outside for other grade levels and students to see.
