Procedures

1. Reconnaissance of the site.

2. Sketch the map and mark all the stations using pegs.
3. Make sure it is visible to target from one peg to another peg.
4. At every station set the tripod to chest level. Spread the tripod stand to stabilize
it and place it directly towards the pegs.
5. The theodolite is then set up at the first station and placed above the tripod head
and tightens the screw. (Figure 1)
6. Center the circular bubble by adjusting using the foot screws until the bubble is
centered. (Figure 2)
7. Look into the optical plummet and adjust the instrument until it is directly
above the nail. Slide the instrument on the tripod head until the centering mark
is centered. (Figure 3)
8. Then, centered the plate bubble by adjusting the foot screws. Make sure the
plate bubble is parallel to the 2 foot screws, adjust either in or out of the foot
screws until the plate bubble is centered. (Figure 4)
9. Turn the theodolite 90 degree so that the plate bubble is now perpendicular to
the adjusted foot screws and adjust the other foot screw (3rd foot screw) until it
is centered. (Figure 5)
10. If the centering mark is not centered above the nail, loosen the screw and view
through the optical plummet by sliding the theodolite across the tripod base
until the centering mark exactly above the nail. Once it is centered, tighten the
screw.
11. Then check back the circular bubble and plate bubble, make sure it is in the
centered. If not, repeat to step 6 to 9.

12. Start with Face Left (FL) position (where the battery position of the theodolite
is at the left hand side).
13. Target at the second station and set the theodolite to zero set (00 0 0). Now
measure from the second station to the last station in clockwise direction and
record the reading. The cross hair target must be directly at the nail.

14. Change to Face Right (FR) position (where the battery position of the
theodolite is at the right hand side).
15. Repeat the procedure in step 13.

16. Therefore, by having the mean average of Face Left and Face Right will give
the internal angle of the location.
17. Repeat the setup procedures for the next stations.
