My name is Tom. Im 16 and I live in Warsaw which is the capital of Poland. My dad
works for a German company. My mom used to teach at the university but now she works
as a computer analyst. I am athletic and very energetic.
Im interested in computer science. I began studying computer when I was seven. I
have my own site on the internet and I have done many programmes. I hope that in the
future I will get a job as a computer scientist.

Monologue 2
I have a new neighbour. He is Mr Jackson. He is 47 years old. He is from Australia. He is
quite tall for a man living in my neighbourhood. He has got long hair and long beard. He
loves wearing hats. He travels a lot. His native language is English, but he speaks
Indonesian quiet well. I also speak a little Spanish, a little German and a little Japanese. I
dont speak these languages very well. I often make mistakes when I speak these
languages.

Monologue 3
I am Bella. My full name is Isabella Swan. I live in a small town of Forks, Washington
with my mom and dad, Charlie Swan. My dad is a police chief in Forks. The town is so
small that he gets to drive the cop car all the time. My mom is a kindergarten teacher.
Although she is a very forgetful person, she is a great teacher. Every year, the kids love
her. I dont have any brothers or sister. When I was in the elementary school, I always
wanted a brother. I wanted an older brother who could protect me.
 Chapter 8 Describing People

Observing

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) is a culture-based recreational area located

in East Jakarta, Indonesia. It has an area of about 250 acres (1.0 km2). The park is a
miniature of Indonesian culture, with virtually all aspects of daily life in Indonesia's
provinces. There are many separate pavilions with the collections of Indonesian
architecture, clothing, dances and traditions. Apart from that, there is a lake with a
miniature of the archipelago in the middle of it. Cable cars, museums, Keong Emas Imax
cinema, a theater called the Theater Tanah Airku and other recreational facilities which
make TMII one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.

Have you ever visited Singapore? Well, if you havent, let me tell you about Singapore.
Singapore is an island city. Its population is about 3 million people. Most Singaporeans
live in high-rise flats.
Uhm Singapore is a beautiful city with lots of parks and open spaces. It is also a
very clean city. You know, the business district is very modern, with lots of tall and new
buildings.
Now, let me tell you about the old section of the city. In Chinatown there are rows
of old shop houses. The government buildings in Singapore are very unique and antique.
They date from the British colonial days.
Shopping! Wow, this is the part that I like very much! Singapore is famous for its
many good shopping centres. Most of the goods are duty free. Its a heaven for shoppers!
What about food? Uhmm yummy ... yummy. Its delicious. Singapores
restaurants provide Chinese, Indian, Malay and European food, and the prices are quite
reasonable. I bet youll like it.
Well, since Singapore lies near the equatorial line, so of course Singapore has a
tropical climate, with nice weather in both dry season and rainy seasons.

Do you know the capital of England? Right. London is the capital of the United
Kingdom.
Look at the map carefully. Here is London. Can you see it? It is situated in
southeastern England along the Thames River. London is a well-known city with a
population of about 7 millions. It is the largest city in Europe. Although it is no longer
included among the worlds most populous cities, London is still one of the worlds major
financial and cultural capitals.
Are you still with me? OK, thank you. Lets continue. Londons climate is generally
mild and damp although it can be erratic. London is one of the driest parts of Britain.

Well, listen to my experience. One day, my friends and I decided to take a bus to Blok M.
After buying the tickets, we had to wait at the bus shelter. We waited and waited, but the
bus didnt show up. My friends surely had more patience and discipline than I did.
At the head of two neat lines, people stood right before the sliding doors, ready to
get on the bus as soon as it arrived. And what did I do? I sat on one of the benches in the
shelter, absorbed in reading a newspaper. More and more passengers came and stood
behind my buddies, but the bus was nowhere to be seen. I was so engrossed in the
newspaper that I didnt pay attention to my surroundings.
The bus came and the queuing passengers had begun entering the vehicle. As my
friends and the other passengers jostled each other to get on the bus, my friends kept
shouting my name. I made a dash for the bus, but it was too late. The bus had closed its
doors. I could only smile meekly and my friends were still shouting with sympathetic
faces looking at me from inside the bus.
I had to catch the next bus alone to get to Blok M. What a journey!

and keep silent. He, then, reported to the school principal as the inspector of the ceremony

the heroes that had died to fight the freedom of the country. Pancasila as the basic
principle of our country was recited and all the participants had to repeat after. Next, the
principal read the preamble of the 1945 constitution. The flag-hoisting was followed by
the reading of the message of the President by the school principal and after that we sang
some patriotic songs. During this occasion, the principal gave away the prizes to the
winners who participated in the competitions organized by the school. The flag-hoisting
ceremony always reminded me of the patriotic spirit that gripped all of us as we celebrate
it. Every moment makes me feel proud of being an Indonesian.

Supratman was born on 9th March 1903. When he was seven years old, his father sent him
to Budi Utomo elementary school, where he proved to be the brightest student. In 1912,
his mother died. Two years later he joined his sister in Ujung Pandang. His sister added
Wage Rudolf to his name, so it became Wage Rudolf Supratman. She did this to enable
her to send him to the Dutch Elementary School. Supratman graduated in 1920 and
became a teacher. In 1923, he resigned as a teacher and went to Bandung and worked as a
journalist.
Supratman was also a musician, who composed Indonesia Raya, The Indonesias
National Anthem. The anthem was played for the first time by the composer himself at
the 2nd Indonesian Youth Congress in Jakarta in 1928. The birth of Indonesia Raya was
closely related to the awakening of Indonesian nationalist and political movement.
Supratman died on 17 August 1938 and was buried at Kapas cemetery in
Surabaya.

Engtay, a Chinese girl convinced her parents that entering school was the best choice for
her. She, then, went to school where she met Sampek, a handsome scholar. Engtay
disguised herself as a young man and was put in the same room with Sampek. Love
finally found its way. Sampek at the end uncovered Engtays disguise. Unfortunately their
love was not predestined. Engtay was called home to be wedded to Ma Tjoen. Sampek
felt very depressed and hurt, fall out of love. This misery brought his death.

a. Well, every morning, the same thing occurred and he soon became rich by selling its eggs. As
he grew rich, he grew greedy and thought to get at once all the eggs the goose could give. He
killed the goose and opened it only to find nothing.
b. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath.
Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that
also.
c. However, the bear was so greedy and evil that he didnt allow the rabbit to get any of the
meat. The poor rabbit could not even taste the blood from the butchering, as the bear would
throw earth on the blood and dry it up. The poor rabbit would have to go home hungry after
his hard days work.
 d. But the harder he blew the closer the traveller wrapped his cloak around him, till at last the
wind had to give up in despair. Then, the sun came out and shone in all his glory upon the
traveller, who soon found it too hot to walk with his cloak on.
e. But shortly after, a wolf actually did come out from the forest and began to worry the sheep.
The boy cried out, Wolf! Wolf! so much louder than before. But this time the villagers, who
had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was again deceiving them. Consequently,
nobody came to help him.

and from that time on she never picked a tulip nor did she allow her neighbours to touch
the flowers.
The tulips grew daily, brighter in colour and larger in size, and they gave out a bad
smell like that of sunflower. They began, too, to bloom all the year around. And every
night the little fairy mothers caressed their babies and rocked them to sleep in the flower-
cups.
It was a very sad day. You know . . . the day when the good old woman died and the
tulip-bed was torn up by folks who did not know about the fairies, and parsley was planted
there and removed the plants. But the parsley withered, and so did all the other plants in
the garden and from that time nothing would grow there.
But the good old ladys grave grew beautiful for the fairies sang above it and kept it
green. On the grave and all around it, there sprang up tulips, daffodils and violets, and the
same sweet flowers of winter. This is the end of a story of a bed of beautiful striped tulips.
