Performance Acknowledgements

Dual Credit: Outstanding performance in Dual Credit, with 12 hours with

grade equivalent of 3.0 (B or 80)
LOTE: Complete all four credits of ELA, with a GPA of 80 above earned in
each credit of English I, II, III, IV and Three Credits of LOTE, with GPA of 80
or above in each credit of Spanish 1, II, and III.
AP: Outstanding performance on a College Board Advanced Placement
exam, with a score of 3 or above.
PSAT or ACT: National Merit Scholar, ACT Composite Score of 28+
Business or Industry Certification or License (See State Law for Approved
Cert or Lic).
Four Year Plan

Required to be done in freshmen year of high school

We do in 8th grade for high school planning
Parent signature is required, went home last year for current 9th and 10th students
Request a copy via email from the counselor
Remember it is a PLAN not a PROMISE
We still use course selection worksheet to choose the next year classes
What Counts in High School?

EVERYTHING!!!
Semester grades determine GPA and class rank for college entrance and
honors (even that daily grade and test grade will turn into your GPA)
Challenging classes help prepare you for life after high school (college
and/or work) What are the challenging classes?
Activities, awards, and community service important for scholarship and
college applications (Put together a folder to keep to build your resume)
You must pass required courses or REPEAT them in order to earn credits
toward graduation
Transcripts

Transcript Requests
Transcripts are for colleges, scholarships, and for you to review your grades, classes, etc.
You may pick up an official copy of the transcript or you may request a copy to be mailed to a
college, or for a scholarship.
Transcript requests are available in the Registrars Office.

Testing Scores

You wont have a transcript until 10th grade.

Class Rank/GPA Calculation

4.0 Scale English 2 - 85 = 4.0 scale = 2.5

5.0 Scale Pre-AP English 2 - 85 = 5.0 scale = 3.5
5.0 scale - The Actual Grade is reflected on the transcript the 10 points are calculated in
the GPA calculation.
Example: 75 = 2.5 versus 1.5 or 65 1.5 instead of no calculation but 65 is still reflected on
transcript.
Top 10% for Automatic College Admission
95 Sophomores = 9, no rounding = 9 students 1-9
79 Freshmen = 7, no rounding = 7 students 1-7
UT Austin Top 6% - Fall Admission for 2019 (Current Junior Class) if trend remains the same:
95 Sophomores = 5.7, no rounding = 5 students 1-5
79 Freshmen = 4.74, no rounding = 4 students 1-4

Difference: SAT contains 3 sections: Reading, math and Writing and Language. The ACT has 4 sections:
Reading, Math, English, and Science. Both have optional essays.

10th Grade Student Registers with NCAA Eligibility Center at www.eligibilitycenter.org
11th Grade
Make sure correct core courses/graduate on time.
Take ACT and/or SAT submit scores to NCAA, use code 9999
Counselor will send transcript to NCAA at the end of the 11th grade year.
12th Grade
Student finishes core courses
Take the ACT/SAT again if necessary
After April 1st, student requests amateurism certification decision from NCAA Eligibility Center
After Graduation, counselor provides final official transcript with proof of graduation to NCAA Eligibility Center

Deadlines Check with your school to learn to deadline date

Competitive University A&M and UT Austin Admissions Info (If one of these is your goal, please get with the Admissions Area Reps early in 11th grade)
Priority Deadline for some colleges changed THIS year it is now October 1st, since the application opened July 1st (Before the senior year even started)
December 1st of your Senior Year Initially Looking at High School Work from 9th 11th Grades You will submit a new transcript at the end of the 1st Semester Senior Year and the After Graduation
Program Admissions is Different than college Admission
Texas A&M Example:
College of Engineering admits 25,000 students total for the Bachelors Degree (Includes all students not just freshmen entering for the first time)
It is a separate application process/essay to be admitted to the Engineering Program, but wont decide which specialization until end of 1st year of college
If you wait to apply to A&M until December 1st the College of Engineering May be FULL!!!
You may get accepted to Texas A&M, but not into Engineering
Semi-Competitive December 1st of your Senior Year (Same example applies as for A&M)
Open Enrollment Any time before August of the Fall Semester
