GUIDE FOR THE HOLY WEEK LITURGY: FOLLOW THE SACRAMENTARY, THE
ORDO, AND THE PARISH PRIEST IN CASE OF DOUBT!!! (2015 Edition)

PASSION/PALM SUNDAY
Things to prepare:
Lights and sound system or Flashlight for readings (for early morning celebration)
Holy Water Sprinkler
3 copies of Passion Narrative / copies of introibo
Lukay-baston for presider
Red vestments/cope if the preside opts to use it

Things to do before the celebration


Check the venue for the blessing of palms
Check the sound system at place for blessing of palms
Check church decorations with palms
Instruct sacristans, lectors, kaabags, and other ministers ahead of time, especially readers for the
passion
Coordinate who shall decorate the place for blessing of palms

And the mass continues as usual.
The gospel about the Lords Passion is proclaimed without candles or incense.
The people may either seat or stand during the whole reading of the passion narrative, this follows the
option of the presider.

MASS OF THE LORDS SUPPER


Things to prepare:
Palak-palak; Palyo; humeral veil;
Utensils for washing of the feet (long towel for presider, basin, pitsel, sabon, etc.)
cloth (red or purple) to be used as cover for crosses and images of saints
Chairs for the 12 apostles
Book of the Gospels
Big decent container of the hosts to be consecrated or just enough ciboria combined
Put 1 extra big host for it to be used for the next days distribution of communion at the Celebration of
the Lords Supper

Thing to do before the celebration:


Tabernacle completely opened and emptied with turned off sanctuary lamp/light, in the morning
In parishes with an adoration chapel, ask the parish priest when to close the adoration chapel
and if it is possible to make it instead the place to keep the consecrated hosts. In this case,
proper notices are written to close the adoration chapel Thursday morning. Appropriate signs of
respect for the stored Blessed Sacrament are also manifested.
Consecrated hosts should be kept in sacristy or any other appropriate place as designated by parish
priest, if there is no parish adoration chapel, or as the parish priest decides
Sufficient number of ciboria and hosts for consecration
Prepare the tabernacle of reposition (altar of repose)
Instruct sacristans, lectors, kaabags, and other ministers ahead of time
PRACTICE with the 12 Apostles
Assign the palyo bearers, palak-palak bearers
The usual materials for sacristans, i.e. processional cross, processional candles, bells
Prepare sanctuary vessels and linens, i.e. chalice, ciboria, purificators, etc
Optional: extra large big host to be used at mass
Arrange who shall keep the blessed sacrament at midnight, when all solemn prayer ends
Ask if gospel and intercessions may be sung

The mass goes on as usual until the Prayer After Communion.
When Eucharistic Prayer 1 is used, take note of the special additions particular to the Mass of
the Lords Supper.
After the distribution of communion, the ciborium with hosts for the next days liturgy is kept at
the designated place in the sacristy or the adoration chapel.
Under no circumstances may the blessed Sacrament be exposed in a monstrance.
The ciborium with consecrated host to be used for the altar of repose is left in the altar above a corporal

CELEBRATION OF THE LORDS PASSION (Friday Afternoon)


Things to prepare before the celebration:
3 copies of the passion narrative, Introibos, etc.
Red Cover for the cross, Perfume, Purificator, Ciboria
Malong/banig or other material for priests prostration
Inquire on the Sto. Intiero and the Mater Dolorosa arrangements after the liturgy
Sound system for presider (If the veneration of the cross starts from the back of the church)

Things to do before the celebration:


Crucifix and other crucifixes, as determined by the parish priest
Ask parish priest when to do or what to do with sibot/collection
Copy of general intercession for the lector and the person who shall introduce the prayers
Orient all lectors, kaabags, etc who shall have parts in the celebration

Liturgy Flow
Altar completely bare, no cloths, flowers, cross
1. Silent entrance of the clergy (and the ministers, if preferred)

3. Prayer (said without mag ampo kita)

1st form: (cross with cover)

2nd Form: (cross without cover with 3 stops)


Priest and servers go to the entrance of the church area where cross is put and the candles to
be lighted to accompany procession are put

12. Kissing and veneration of the cross by the faithful follows


Ask the parish priest what he intends to do with the sibot next to the crucifix
At the end of the veneration, crucifix placed near altar with lighted candles
HERE, THE COLLECTION MAY BE DONE, OTHER THAN THE ONE DONE AT THE KISSING OF THE CRUCIFIX

PART 3: COMMUNION

EASTER VIGIL
Things to do:
Put reserved space for candidate for baptism, ninong, ninang at front pew
Check and do a preliminary sindi of the pabilo sa paschal candle
Check the size of the paschal candle whether it fits with the stand
Instruct sacristans, lectors, kaabags, and other ministers
Coordinate with and instruct the person who will turn on the lights and ring the bells
Instruct candidate/s for baptism ahead of time
Coordinate with the sound system in charge for the service of light, if any
Mark sacramentary with the corresponding prayers for the readings made
Remove image of Sto Intiero and Mater Dolorosa, as directed by the parish priest
Ask if gospel and intercessions may be sung

Things to prepare:
Copies of exsultet, litany, Introibo, etc.
Sprinkler and dahon used for sprinkling
Paschal candle stand
Tubig (sa banga, baril or whatever)
Butangan sa mga incense grains
Stylus
Flashlight for the service of light
Bon fire with appropriate fuel
Chrism, white cloth, candles, etc for baptism
Candles for priest, seminarians, and others in the sanctuary
Names of adult/child/children candidate for baptism

Part 1: Service of Light


All lights in church put out; large fire prepared in suitable place outside the church

Check also if there is a extra large paten for this purpose.

3. Holy water buckets for renewal of baptismal promises

Things to do before the celebration

1. Make sure that the altar, the lectern are decent for the mass
2. Make sure altar cross is decent and that altar candles dili mapalong sa hangin
3. Make sure that all paraphernalia for mass is available
4. Organize parol of sacristans for communion stations
5. Organize kaabag and collectors to stand next to the parols for collection
6. Ask if the gospel and the intercession may be sung

Addendum:

MASS FOR THE SICK


1. Note the need for chrism to be taken from the newly consecrated chrism at the Cathedral
2. Note the need prepare handwashing materials including lemonsito, etc.
