Teachers notes

You will need: A copy of the worksheet for each student, scissors, paper bags or
large envelopes, sticky notes.
l Hand out a copy of the worksheet to each student.
l Ask students to carefully cut out the cards.
l Divide the class into small groups of three or four students.
l Give each group a small paper bag, or alternatively a large envelope, and a
stickynote.
l Ask each group to think of a group name, and to write it on a sticky note. Students
then label their bag with their groups name.
l Ask students to put their cut-out cards in the bag and to shake it around. They then
empty the words from the bag onto the table in front of them.
l Give students a time limit to try to make as many correct sentences and questions as
possible from their words, laying these out on their tables.
l After the time is up, go round the tables, awarding points for correct sentences
andquestions.
l Keep the bags for use in future classes or for fast finishers.

Teachers notes

You will need: A copy of the worksheet for each pair of students, scissors
l Before class begins, cut out the three crossword puzzles on each worksheet and hide
them: put the puzzles with the triangle under your table, the puzzles with the circle in
your book, and the puzzles with the star on your chair. Cut the remaining part of the
worksheet into the three clue cards.
l 
Put students into pairs and give each pair a clue card.
l 
Ask students to carefully cut out the letters on their clue card. Students put the letters
in order to make a clue, and then look for the crossword puzzles.
l 
In pairs, they complete the puzzle and bring it to you to check.
l 
If you wish, you can give students a different clue to find a different puzzle.
