CHAPTER*TWO
YIELD LINE THEORY
****************************************************************************

1. 0 Given a slab of span 5.0m and width13.0m.It is reinforced at the top and
bottom with reinforcements dia 10 mm @200mm C/C on both ways. The
overall thickness of the slab is 200mm.The concrete grade is M25 and steel
with TMT BARS. Find the maximum concentrated load and its position
the slab can carry at its centerline. Supports all around perimeter of slab
are fixed. Consider the self weight of slab also. Make appropriate
assumptions if necessary.
2.0A slab is fixed on three sides with one longer side free. The lengths of the
both sides supported and cantilever spans are 6.00 and 2.5m respectively.
Design the slab using elastic method and check its capacity by yield line
method.
3.0Given a regular hexagonal slab, in which a circle5.0 m in diameter can be
inscribed. The slab is isotropic ally reinforced at bottom and supports with 8
mm dia bars at 150mm c/c spacing of TMT BARS. The overall thickness of
slab is 160 mm. Find the safe load the slab can carry.

4.0 Using yield line theory, derive the formula for circular slab design. By
making use of this formula design of a slab having diameter of 10.0 m.
Assume all necessary design data.

5.0 What is yield line pattern? Using yield line concept calculate the ultimate
capacity of a rectangular slab with clamped end. derive formula in general
form as:
( a)capacity in terms of udl

(b)capacity in terms of concentrated load, when it is at centroid.

Assume all necessary datas suitably.
