QlikView BI & reporting applications can draw from one or multiple data sources and are built with the full developer
tool named QlikView Enterprise. Power users are catered for with QlikView Professional which allows
development of the front-end applications without having to touch the back-end script. Once an application has
been developed, this information is then made available to end users in a number of ways:

1. The full interactivity and flexibility of QlikView applications can be made available to users via:

a. A windows-based client, installed on individual users PC

b. A web-based Active-X or Java plug-in, utilising QlikView Server
c. A zero footprint, web-based interface, also utilising QlikView Server

2. Reports can be created and printed to PDF, Excel etc and then easily distributed via email or made
available on a central data repository.

Management of wide scale QlikView deployments, including security and administration, is made simple with
QlikView Publisher.

A description of the QlikView Products is included at the end of this document.

Designed for Microsoft platforms, the QlikView deployment options cater for all size organisations, from small
enterprises with one or two users through to large organisations with thousands of users across many functional
areas. Three typical deployment scenarios are outlined below. For further information on any of the QlikView
deployment options and products, please visit www.insideinfo.com.au and download the relevant product fact

(A) QlikView Deployment Windows client on individual users PC (simplest deployment)
This deployment approach is most applicable for:

Small to medium sized organisations;

Any organisation that would like to start with a focused initial deployment and do so in the most
affordable way;
Any organisation where web deployment is not required and data sets are not significantly large.

This approach is the simplest to deploy, most affordable with licensing and typically complete with existing IT
infrastructure.

QlikView applications are developed with QlikView Enterprise (a developers tool) and then saved to a local
directory or network drive that is accessible to those who need to view the QlikView application(s). An automatic
(usually overnight) data refresh is also created. End users then access the QlikView applications via the Windows
client on each users PC, receiving full analysis capability.

(B) QlikView Deployment Web-based with QlikView Server
Again, with this approach BI & reporting applications are developed with the developer tool QlikView Enterprise.
Applications are then made available to end users via a web-based interface with QlikView Server, utilising the full
processing power of the server.

This deployment approach is most applicable for:

Any organisation where web deployment is required or preferred;

Mid-size or large organisations with large data sets and large numbers of users;
Any organisation that requires centralised, server based applications.

QlikView Server applications can be made available to end users via the following clients:

1. ActiveX plug-in
2. Zero footprint DHTML
3. Java

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can QlikView do reporting as well as analysis and dashboards?

A: Yes. QlikView aims to make analysis simple for all, so anyone can analyse performance and generate their own
information. Sometimes there is also a requirement to generate reports and present information in a more fixed
way, without the capability to do analysis e.g. for financial reporting. QlikView includes a report generator to do this.

Q: Can I produce reports with QlikView and email them to different people?

A: Yes. QlikView has a report generator that allows you to develop reports from data held within QlikView
applications. This allows you to combine a number of objects, for example two graphs together with tabular rows
and columns of data and present them on the one page. Once developed, the reports can be set up to
automatically print to PDF or Excel, and then be made available through various means, such as posted on an
intranet page or emailed to the appropriate people.

Q: Can QlikView scale to handle large data sets?

A: Yes. With 64-bit hardware platforms, QlikView can scale to handle hundreds of millions of data records with
terabyte size data sets. Put simply, QlikView can uniquely provide simple analysis that can be used by anyone on
extremely large data sets. Data load refreshes have been recently benchmarked with HP at 4 million records per
second! To learn more, view the following on www.insideinfo.com.au under the QlikView for corporates section:

1) KBV case study

2) HP / QlikView Performance Benchmarking whitepaper

Q: How does QlikView handle security and ensure users only get the information relevant to them?

A: There are two levels of security within QlikView:

1) User IDs and Passwords can be set up for each QlikView model. QlikView can inherit users security
details or the User IDs and Passwords can be set up within QlikView.

2) Each User ID can be linked to a specific set of data, so that whenever a User opens the QlikView model
they will only see data relevant to them (this is called data reduction). For example a sales manager may
only be allowed to see sales data relevant to his or her customers.

Q: What options do I have for QlikView clients?

A: There are four client options for deploying QlikView.

1) QlikView Plug-In client. This is a small ActiveX plug-in and the most commonly used option. This allows
the user to access QlikView models via a web browser. The functionality is exactly the same as
QlikViews standard PC install.

2) QlikView java client. The java client again allows access via a web browser. The user interface is slightly
different to the Plug-In although most of QlikView display options are supported.

3) Zero Footprint client. A true zero footprint option, meaning nothing is installed on the client side. This user
interface is developed as a web page that references a QlikView model. The look and feel is therefore
slightly different to the Plug-In although most QlikView display options are supported.

4) Windows Client install. QlikView is installed on individual users PCs.

Q: What data sources can QlikView access?

A: Any database that is ODBC compliant can be accessed by QlikView. In addition QlikView can access most data
files such as Excel, CSV, HTML, text files etc.

Q: Can QlikView access multiple data sources for one analysis model?

A: Yes. QlikView can access an unlimited number of data sources for one model. For example a model may
access the companys ERP system for financial data, its payroll system for salary data and a range of spreadsheets
or Access databases for other related data. These can all be brought together through logical relationships into one
complete QlikView analysis model.

Q: Can you explain how QlikViews Extract Transform and Load (ETL) facility works?

A: QlikViews ETL facility is used to connect to the required data source, identify the required tables and fields and
then import the data into QlikView. This can all be done using QlikView script wizards, which automatically create
the required script for data extraction. These wizards are supported by over 3,000 functions allowing the data to be
transformed, mapped and cleaned. The data load can be started manually or scheduled for a specified time.

Q: Can I publish information to my intranet with QlikView?

A: QlikView can be accessed via your intranet using one of the standard QlikView client options that allow browser
access. In addition QlikView reports can be generated as html documents or PDF documents that could be
published to your websites.
